So much for the easy traveling we mentioned before....when leaving Kuala Lumpur we missed our bus to Mersing and ended up legging it round KL in 38 degrees heat trying to find a different bus station...with our amazing language skills we got a bus to Kulang (a random city not even in the guide book) and from there we eventually made it to the coast just in time to miss the last boat to Tioman! Hence a night in the worst hostel possible where randomly a guy from Jersey was staying (cant get away from those crappos!) The following morning we made it to Tioman and spent a week relaxing in the sun (or more like in the air con room!) and swimming. We stayed in Salang, advertised as the "party place" of the island but ... read more

Yogyakartasta matka jatkui bromolle. Bromo, tuo luontoaidin uljas tekele, mahtava tulivuori, indonesian etna. Paastiin myos katselemaan tulivuoren kraateria, oli jees, vaikka transport-h... read more

Today promised to be very boring. Woke up early to catch the 7:30am bus out of the rain forest to Jerantut to change to another bus to Kuantun to change again to Mersing. All in all we arrive in Mersing at 6pm. Many, many hours of sitting on buses. The first was a bumpy local job down the mountain. The second promised to be an upgrade but failed to deliver due to some bung suspension or something but we were near hitting the ceiling at every bump in the road (even though it appeared flat). The third however was quite a treat. The driver stopped at a little food court where i picked up a Mee Goreng and mango crush. Grand total: $2.50 and it was beyond delicious. In Mersing the bus driver walked us to ... read more

I caught the boat from the Perhention islands to Kota Bhau at 7am with the sun rising over the larger Perhention Island. You have to catch a small boat out 20 meters to be picked up by a slightly larger boat to ferry you across, the bay was littered with these as people sadly left the perhention to reach there next destination, everybody as sad as the next to be leaving such a wonderful island. Other than agreeing that we would get the first boat out i had made no other plans with Trina and Maren about where to meet, they were not on the boat that i had boarded, as for the onward journey they had bought tickets and planned how to get there, my plan was to float in there slip stream, as things ... read more

Its strange how things come together and how travel and learning something new brings people together. Thomas and I have been talking about learning scuba diving for years but never found an agreeable time to do so. And then, it all came together within 2 weeks. My work trip got postponed, JL's hol trip got postponed, Thomas and Dennis had an available weekend and so off we went. 3 guys and a gal off to Dayang for our padi open water beginner course. We had taken our pool and theory the previous weekend under a a very jovial and humourous instructor. Pity he couldn't come with us on our open water dives. Things got excited as the weekend neared. Slightly fearful of the drills in the open sea, the unknown and breathing underwater from an ... read more

Well, what a week we've had! I'll try and split what we've been up to over a few entries so that I can fit more pictures on. First off, we got the coach from Johor Bahru to Mersing last week. The coach was decent standard and it was cool watching out the windows while we wound our way through the bumpy roads of East Malaysia up to Mersing. When we got there, only 2 hours later, it was sweltering and we trudged up one of the two main roads in Mersing looking for a hostel that the Lonely Planet guide had recommended as cheap, friendly and clean. It turned out to be very cheap, quite friendly but filthy. At the moment we're having trouble uploading pictures (ancient pc's again!) but if I can get them to ... read more

Hi all, just a quick update covering our last couple of weeks in Singapore and S.E. Malaysia. After a pleasant 8 hour flight from Brisbane we landed in steamy, sultry Singapore - 'The City State' just 36 miles north of the equator. Tina's never been before but my last visit 15 years ago was as a penniless backpacker and my memories were not that fond. Fortunately, this time around was much better. Singapore is a striking blend of the ultra-modern opulence of the downtown business district, with its skyscrapers and the plush top-end shopping malls of Orchard Road, contrasted with the shabby racousness of areas like Little India and Chinatown with their street-front eateries, chinese baroque architecture and burning offerings and incense sticks on every street corner. Staying in a Chinese enclave to the east of ... read more

Hi everyone, Well as it turned out we did not return to Koh Tao, but travelled on to Koh Phangan instead. We stayed at a small but perfect hotel on a white sand beach (what other kinds of beaches are there?) One of the outstanding things we found on this island is an Italian restaurant run by an Italian chef and his wife from Northern Thailand, who make all their own pasta, some of the best food we have eaten outside of Italy, not really what you would expect to find on a small Thai island. On to the ferry after a few days and on to Samui largest of the local island group sporting an airport and many resorts, still very relaxing which had we known of our next journey we would have appreciated ... read more

Preguntando ... read more
