Hi there!

I'm from Singapore, a sunny country all year round. I like to travel. Culture, people, history, way of living, weather, the sights, sounds and the unknown presents their own uniqueness. Trekking off the beaten path also presents its own appeal and offers relaxation and reflection. Nice scenery and activities are always a plus.
I've been to San Fran, LA, Hawaii,Indonesia, Australia,China,Thailand,Turkey,Iran, Cambodia, Japan and recently Vietnam. Hope I can visit all the places I want to go in my life time. Fingers crossed! Life's a journey. Make it a happy one.

On route to Paris, we stopped at Brussels, Belgium for half a day to visit the pretty old square, the Manneken Pis (fountain of a small boy peeing into a basin) and purchase a ton of chocolate for our friends and family back home. It was nice sitting in the square eating waffles, chocolates and sweet biscuits. The mussels in Brussels were also pretty tasty for lunch. There was also some kind of antique car gathering in the square. We arrived in Paris late at night with the backside of the train station looking spooky and no idea of how to get to our accommodation. As always, a kind bus driver helped us make our way there. And so, we were in our last stop of our Eurotrip 2011. We were determined to make the most ... read more

We arrived at our accommodation and we were surprised that it was actually a fully furnished studio apartment complete with full kitchen facilities. We loved the place although it was slightly far from the main tourist attractions. Amsterdam is an interesting city with its canals, nice architecture and liberal sex shops and red light district. Another good city to cycle which makes me wonder why my own country can’t make cycling on the roads safer and more pleasant. Everywhere, you will see people cycling and it is a joy to watch them whiz around town effortlessly. The morning markets are interesting to find a good bargain and the cafe culture is popular around here. Once again, we stopped for hot cappuccino at one of the cafes. Not to be confused with the famous “coffee shops” which ... read more

We visited Heidelberg on route to the Rhine Valley. Its castle was pretty to look at from far but there was not much inside it. The “philosophers walk” on the opposite bank of the river gave good views of the town. Unfortunately, the shops were closed on Sunday. We had our pork knuckles and fresh beer before we arrived at Bacharach at 1030pm. Our accommodation in this quiet town was in a castle! The idea of living in a castle excited us but we came to realize that living in a castle means long flights of steps up the hills and it wasn’t such a good idea with our packs in the dark. So we called a cab and arrived just in time to check in much to our relief. Bacharach makes a good base to ... read more

Bern turned out to be Jace’s least favourite town of the trip due to the lack of “breathtaking sights” which we would encounter a quite a number of times on this trip. I guess fountains and clocks didn’t really interest her much. But, I actually liked the cobber-stone streets and the numerous flags hanging out on one of their well known streets. Furthermore, I liked the feel of riding our bicycles in the cool weather to explore the town. Lock it up, explore the streets and cycle on. So, while there were not many sights, I liked it. The roads are bicycle friendly and traffic is light. Did I also mention that our hostel provided free bicycles? We liked out accommodation in Bern. It was cozy, it had a nice common kitchen and it provided free ... read more

We set off from Rome to Pisa to see the famous leaning tower of Pisa on route to Cinque Terre. Our Eurail pass allowed us to hop off at Pisa, do a half day sight seeing and hop on back to the train. We came to realize during planning that Eurail passes doesn’t save you much money in Italy unless you travel long distances (>3hrs). This is because, even with a Eurail Pass, you still need to pay 10 Euros to reserve a seat on the fast trains. You will be better off buying a point to point ticket. We did what all tourists do at the tower which was to take pictures with each of us trying to support the tower. Silly but what the heck, we were here. Later on, we heard sirens and ... read more

We arrived in Rome early in the morning and considered going to Naples for Pompeii but decided we could spend less time traveling and more time exploring Rome. Naples will have to be on another trip. Our lodging in Rome was a modern chic apartment room which we liked very much. After settling down, we went straight to the legendary Colosseum! The stadium appeared out of place in modern Rome with traffic and the Metro station just across the street. We tried to imagine how it was like thousands of years ago where the Roman Empire was in its heyday. It reminds me of Russsell Crowe and the movie Gladiator. Next stop was the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill carrying more ancient ruins of pillars, temples, market places and gathering places. I like Rome for ... read more

Florence exuberates art and culture as the birthplace of the Renaissance with works of Leonardo, Michaelangelo, Donatello, Raphael and. Before this, I only knew them as ninja turtles. If we thought the Duomo in Milan was huge, the one in Florence was a giant. Although not as elaborate, its pale pink and green façade is more mellow, much like a gentle giant. As we were there on Easter Sunday, there was a massive gathering of people outside the Duomo in the morning with a huge fireworks cart which when lit, let off a wonderful display of pyrotechnics for a good 10-15 minutes. In the afternoon, we visited the Piazza Signoria, an L-shaped square littered with huge eye catching statues of naked men and women such as the copy of David, Neptune, Perseus and the head of ... read more

We decided it was time to travel Europe so we booked our tickets earlier in the year, read up, planned our rough itinerary, booked accommodations and got all excited as the date to depart drew nearer. Our route eventual route looked something like this (Italy) Milan Venice Florence, SiennaRomePisa Cinque Terre (Switzerland) Bern Bernese Oberland Swiss Alps  Luzern (Germany)Rhine Valley (Netherlands)Amsterdam , Haarlem, Kinderdijk (Belgium) Brussels (France) Paris The key idea was to have some flexibility to tweak our itinerary to suit our pace as we went along. We got ourselves a Eurail 7 day flexi pass for rail travel between cities which we found convenient as the trains pulled into stations which were often in the heart of the city and near our accommodations. Milan. Sophisticated, stylish and expensive food. A huge cathedral (Duomo) ... read more

On my list of must do was to climb Mount K and I am happy to say that I came, I saw , I conquered and am now having aches in my thighs that make me walk down any flight of stairs like donald duck. Looking back, it was enjoyable like all holidays but tough. Just one of those things you want to do once in your life. Lodging at the Midway Accomodation (Laban Rata) and the Park HQ has been increasing approx 15+% every financial year. It is no longer cheap to climb Mount K, well at least not as cheap as when my colleagues back at the office climbed it years ago. Which was why our climb was scheduled for 31 Mar. Climb another day later and we would have to pay 15% ... read more

We were still deciding if we could squeeze Sapa into our 6D5N itinerary for what was originaly planned for just Hanoi City and Halong Bay. In the end, I am glad we made the right decision in what differentiated a good trip from an average one. So thank you Melvin, for your kind recommendation! It also meant we had to reduce sightseeing in Hanoi to just 1 day and had no change for major screw ups. Thanks to the our hotel Manager at Atlantic Hotel, Mr Tamzay and his staff who babysited us from the very first day. The accomodation was nothing fancy but comfortable for a very brief 1 night stay in Hanoi. But I felt the service was great. Recommend it especially if you are on a tight schedule. It rained all day ... read more
