hahahan - Chung Hun

Chung Hun Hi there!

I'm from Singapore, a sunny country all year round. I like to travel whenever I can. Culture, people, history, way of living, weather, the sights, sounds and the unknown presents their own uniqueness. Trekking off the beaten path also presents its own appeal and offers relaxation and reflection. Nice scenery and activities are always a plus.
I've been to places like San Fran, LA, Hawaii,Indonesia, Australia,China,Thailand,Turkey,Iran, Cambodia. Some places I would like to go to include Italy, Swiss, Croatia, Japan, Egypt,Morooco, Nepal,India,Tibet,Canada,Alaska..etc. So hope I will be able to acomplish those in my lifetime...heh heh

Approaching the killing caves
Battambang isn't exactly on the typical tourists itinery but we decided to take a gamble and it paid off. We were tired of temples and needed some place different. Away from the tourists, temples and crowded places. Decided to give Phnom Penh a miss and head to this sleepy, quiet town via a 3.5 hr bumpy car ride. The road to battambang isn't exactly in good shape but we got there on time and stayed at the Royal Hotel. Our first stop was lunch at the White Rose. Simple place with nice and cheap food. The mango shake was terrific. [View Full Entry]

Off we went the five of us to Cambodia. Well four actually, can't believe we lost LH to stomach flu. Tinge of disappointment but I guess things happen. There always a next time ! right? heh heh Short flight from Singapore to Siem Reap. Calvin was pretty excited, judging by the happy chatter from him. Jace just plonk down and passed out asleep in her seat. Our ride was at the airport to pick us up flashing our dear friends name at the airport. First impressions as our plane landed were the wide open spaces comparative to the clustered tall [View Full Entry]

Tree and Me

Woke up early on my 2nd last day in Istanbul. Took the city day tour to visit Asiatic Istanbul. Also lets me take it easy after some hectic travelling schedules. Visited Yiliz palace and park, Galata Tower , took a cable car ride. The old city sea and land walls surrounding old Istanbul were pretty amazing stretching a very vast distance and some places had 3 layers of walls built to defend the city. but the highlight was probably the day sea cruise through the Golden Horn and the mighty Bosphorous. Pretty cold on board but very pleasant and nice [View Full Entry]

Esfahan

Middle East » Iran » West » Esfahan
Arrived in Esfahan on a back to back National holiday for the Iranians cause its the anniversary of their founder. Hence, every mosque, palace or any place that needed tickets was closed. Explored the bazaar , Imam Square and the Bridges of Esfahan instead. Esfahan has good weather! Its kinda windy and cool. The bazaar is pretty interesting selling things from carpets to camel bone ornaments. I realise bazaars in Iran are just huge mega shopping places. Really interesting with tons and tons of things they sell. And their bazaars are usually huge ( few km large). Got sucke [View Full Entry]

Abayneh & Kashan

Middle East » Iran » West » Esfahan
Took a short trip to Kashan on route to Tehran as i head back to the border. Abyaneh was nice with the little Red houses .....The local women dress in pretty colourful clothings different from the other cities. Abayneh is at the foot of a mountain ...sslightly elevated giving the area a cool and crisp weather. Nice scenery out here with some really nice tall trees...(pine trees? not sure) at the end of a short walk, there is also a mini water fall ....pretty refreshing to drink from it. Guess this is a weekend getaway place for Iranians. My guide [View Full Entry]

Bus to Yazd arrived 4am in the morning. On the bus, talked to another Iranian, Nassin. He is an interior designer shuttling between kuwait and iran. I asked him how women were treated in both countries and he said the women of Iran have more freedom with many working in gov offices holding high respectable positions. Later when i disembarked, he helped me haggle the price for a taxi and it was cheap. I thought Yazd would be some hot and uninteresting place but i was wrong. Its actually pretty windy and I checked in at the Silk Road Hotel [View Full Entry]

Decided to take a tour to the deserts beyond the city of Yazd to 3 other towns on the outskirts. My guide and driver arrived puntually. I loved the tour. Started the day with a morning walk through an old city of mud...Different from what you can see in Yazd. Fortress walls and citadels also enclose this town. On the edge of Kavanagh are crop fields with efficient irrigation. There was also a shaking minaret and a dried river bed with a nice bridge. The driver was a geography teacher in school but because school has stopped for the summer, [View Full Entry]

Stayed in the Estaghal hotel. Was over charged compared to what was written in the lonely planet. i guess its because the cab driver gets a comission for beinging me to the hotel. And the comission comes from me. Grrrrr..but the place was clean and nice so guess it was ok. Booked a Persepolis Tour with Pars for just $8. At th office, i met a Singaporean lady ! Solo traveller also but she was been in Iran for 3 months! She is an English teacher whom i guess has fallen in love with Iran. Said she wants to learn [View Full Entry]
