So I went to Tokyo this last weekend. Talk about an adventure! Some of you probably already know that... my plan was to go to the Tokyo Game Show! Color me excited! It was certainly the experience. Extremely busy, as in... SO MANY PEOPLE that you get in a crowd and you absolutely cannot MOVE and you're just getting pushed along with the mob. Crazy. But overall, it was a ton of fun, even though it was tiring. The weekend started off on Friday night after archery club (oh yeah, did I tell everything that I joined the archery club? It's pretty awesome). I met up with my friend Michelle at school around 8:30 and then we were off for Hirakata station. The bus we were taking was leaving from Osaka, so we had to get ... read more

We left Yamanaka and took a old train towards Gotenba to catch the Shinkansen to Tokyo. It was a lovely train journey passing by all these lovely houses up in the hills that had vegetable patches in the front garden. The train journey took just under a couple of hours and then we took the Shinkansen to Tokyo which took just over an hour. We both had chosen to go to the neighborhood of Akihabara that is situated in the Northern area of Tokyo. It is known as the electric district of Tokyo for all the electrical stores that are based there and also for the sleeping capsule hotels there. We went and reserved a capsule each for two nights for around £40 each a night. The capsules themselves are very spacey with a T.V and ... read more

Took a ride to Akihabara. It's the famous electronics district of Tokyo that spring up Post-WWII as an area where entrepreneurs began selling old radio parts to try to scratch out a living when Japan was bombed into a parking lot. Now, its electronics to the nth degree. Computers, laptops of every size, cell phones, accessories, rice cookers, wires, transistors, screens, electronic tools, lightbulbs, you name it its there. Rows and rows of cramped store fronts that expanded vertically rather than horizontally. Each one was lit up in neon blasting techno music. I bought a 7 dollar iPod touch case...exciting. I wanted to try to find a used electronics store but couldnt in my brief time there. I need a cheap Japanese-English electronic dictionary. There is another side to Akihabara, something very important to Japanese culture ... read more

Let the good times roll! NOTICE: pictures hopefully retrieved soon. On March 8th, our good friend Brian finally joins Jay's and I's adventure. Derek, my roommate knew of a good resturaunt near my house, so we had their welcome back Dinner there. It was something I had been looking for awhile. Dining can easily get really expensive in Tokyo, but this place was all you can grill-your-own foods for two hours. Its so wonderful to eat such large amounts of juicy steaks, fish, and pork. I felt so sorry for all those vegetarians and vegans out there. Food, especially meat, can feel like such ecstacy sometimes. The next morning we left for Hakone. Its like a two hour train ride from Tokyo. Its mountainous town, famous for its onsen (hotsprings). The hotel was located nearby, ... read more

Ahoj, vola Tokyo. Na ti... read more

Updated: The last, well only, day in Tokyo was spent running around frantically searching out my new camera and trying to get in some sites as well. I started off at BIC Camera and got there about 30 mins before they open and they already had a line up to get in! The place was in sane...it was electronic overload...as I'm stumbling thought the isles marveling and drooling over all the gadgets i stood there memorized...behold the largest HD television I've ever seen...it was 110" yes, 110"...after about five minutes of standing in the middle of the isle in awe I asked the price...well, asked in hand gestures, don't ask how I did it, but the thing cost $64,000 CDN!!! OK, moving on. Hit the digital cameras and was really disappointed in the prices...they were 100 ... read more

Wow, I had heard that this place was expensive, but it is completely insane. You can't breath here without paying. It is a crazy hectic, fast paced city, where everyone is in a hurry. Such a change from the Asia from which we just left. In Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, life is a slow calm pace. A, when it happens it will happen type of attitude. Not so here......we arrived amidst rush hour, and caught the train from the airport to Tokyo city center. We are staying at the Shanagawa Prince hotel, which was the only available place under 200 bucks a night. Seriously. So the place is some kind of entertainment resort full of eateries, bars bowling alleys, (over 80 lanes), and completed with a Dolphin aqua center and show, oh and a huge theater ... read more

And Other things that don't belong.... It's been awhile...(sashiburi). My apologies for not keeping up, but I've been soo busy this past month. But now I'm finished with school, so I can start hammering away at all these posts I need to catch up on. UPDATE-----As of now, all my pictures are possibly gone, which is why I waited even further to update. Maybe in a few weeks I'll get them back, lets keep our fingers crossed.------- So I guess I would of left of on our school trip to the Chateau. Our school had planned a bus trip to some rural part of Japan. I can't recall anything else about the location. The entire KCP student body was crammed into 18 buses or so, and we set off around 8am. It was about a ... read more
