Wandering Hungarian - David

Welcome to my new blog location...I had to change it since uploading multiple pictures and editing on the other blog site was a real pain. This one lets me upload pics, videos and map out where I'm at! :)

If you subscribed to the old one you can subscribe to this one instead and get all the updates the moment they get published.

I added more to the Tokyo entry since I was running around for the day and the pics are a bit out of order in each blog since they are a mix of my trusty point and shoot Canon 630 and new Canon 40D SLR. I still have more Bangkok pics to add and Ko Tao from my SLR but the pics are huge so they take a while to upload.

Sorry for taking so long to write but a lot has happened in the past couple of days, as you'll read, plus I wanted to stay away from anything technology related for a couple of days...

At first I was only going to upload the pics and save the remaining story telling for when I'm back but knowing me I'd probably just forget all the details...sooooooo...here goes... Last I left you guys I was in Bangkok. Didn't take any new pics since it was the 4th time I was there and didn't really see any new. The main point was just to chill for 3 days and recuperate after the whirlwind tour of Vietnam and Lao (which I still am kicking myself for not having enough time to really explore). But anyways, Bangkok. Out of pure fluke [View Full Entry]

Ok, so after I left yah folks I went to go get me a hearty breakfast and some very strong, yet tasty, Lao coffee before starting the Gibbon Experience since I already learned that most of these 3 day treks feed you very little food (mostly rice and vegetables) and I didn't want to drastically lose any more weight. I already lost about a good 14 lbs on this trip after weighing myself the other day! I picked up the 2 litres of drinking water since they haven't had any running water up there for the past 7 days since their [View Full Entry]

Hanoi (Vietnam Morning)
Hanoi (Vietnam Morning)
The burning of the fields creates a beautiful hue in the morning
When I think back at all the places and things I've seen my head begins to swirl. It’s gotten to the point where when people ask me the question "when did you get into X city" I actually have to stop and think about it...especially how I traveled to it. But its funny how much you learn about your own body and psyche traveling for a long duration. You quickly learn the physical limits of your body from food poisoning, dehydration, sprained body parts (various places I didn't even know you could sprain making you think, when and where did I [View Full Entry]

Flight from Hanoi to Luang Prabang (Lao)

The night before leaving from Hoi An I had dinner at this little restaurant facing the river and got to talking with the waiter by the name of Mr. Phong. After several drinks and amazing food Mr. Phong invited to show me his family and village in the outskirts of Hoi An the next day and I happily accepted. The next morning I jumped on the back of Mr. Phong's motorcycle and we went well over an hour out into the Vietnamese country side to his village. It was a great morning where my captive tour guide taught me more about [View Full Entry]

So after my very quick stay in Phnom Phen (only 1 night since there really wasn't much to see and I wasn't really feeling the city), I hopped onto my bus over to Hoi Chi Minh City to meet up with Abi and Bianca again. Now imagine a city with 10 million people that has about 5 million motorcycles/vespas in it, plus there are no rules on the road...left side, right side, stop light, green light, they're all suggestions which no one really follows. To make matters worse, there are 4 way intersections (major intersections) without any lights or signs, just [View Full Entry]

So I have to dedicate part of this blog entry to Zak (the 34 year old from Manchester that I was swearing at in my head for being the cause of my wicked hang over on my journey to Cambodia)...but lets rewind a wee little bit. After my last blog entry I met Zak (once an IT consultant turned bartender in the UK that now owns 3 properties in the UK...doing much better as a bartender) at one of the local restaurants in Bangkok and he was a pretty cool guy so we made plans to meet up and hit the [View Full Entry]

The last couple of days were spent exploring old Chiang Mai, the temples and night bazaar and checking out the night life with the Trek posse of Abi, Bianca, Tom, Tim, Olly and Stevie from too much Saki at a Japanese restaurant, buckets of booze at the Reggae Rooftop bar to listening to some awesome cover bands at the Riverside Bar that had amazing views on the river surrounding Chiang Mai. One of the nights we went to a Mauy Thai fight that was pretty disappointing since the average age of the fighters were around 14 including one fight with 10 [View Full Entry]

So I made it back on time to the travel agency to get my lift to the airport to Chiang Mai and though I was supposed to get a normal taxi to the airport the owner of the agency offered to give me a lift in her brand new car. The car ride there she told me about this couple from Quebec that was only in Thailand for 2 days when they went into the street market and weren't watching their stuff and had everything stolen (passports, wallets, clothes, everything!) and the owner of the agency actually lent them money to [View Full Entry]

Of all Thailand cities Krabi has been the best simply because its extremely built up but Thai style not Western style like Ko Samui and extremely slow paced and chill not like the mecca of Bangkok...the food was amazing, cheap and locals beyond friendly. Graeme and I got a room with air con for a mere 700 Bhat ($23, split 2 ways $11.50 each) we tried to bargain (just for fun) and I'm sure we would have been able to get it even cheaper except if we didn't decide to walk the couple of kms with our backpacks from the bus [View Full Entry]

Ko Tao was great but time to move on. I hopped onto the ferry heading over to Ko Samui to stay the night and meet Graeme at the Ko Samui airport in the morning to head over to Ko Pha Ngan, but first things first was to get rid of the Rough Guide travel book which was about 4 years out of date and the weight of a brick (including the 7 other books which I have read half of 2 so far, my bag has become annoyingly heavy). So good bye Rough Guide and hello Lonely Planet's Thailand's Islands and [View Full Entry]
