So. First update. So I am staying in Yokohama for a while. I don't think i am even ready for Tokyo. Yokohama is a very happy city. Not as lively as Tokyo, but enough for me! I read about a city just 20 minutes away from Yokohama station called Kamakura. I read up on the history. It used to be capital of Japan for a while. Due the its historical and artistic importance, Kamakura was spared what most of Japan got during world war two. The most famous sight in Kamakura is the Daibutsu (this means Big Buddha!). I couldn't find the damn thing! I kept getting lost and i don't speak Japanese at all really. ah. but i did get to see a shinto wedding, which was beautiful. I paid 300 yen to get into ... read more

A whole week has gone by since I first arrived in Japan in what has been a flurry of a vacation before I hit Singapore for 4 weeks. I didn’t really have any jet lag but I did, for reasons completely unknown to me, I wake up between 4 and 5am almost every morning and hit the sack pretty early in the evening. If you know me, this early morning rising is unheard of outside of necessity. Alas, I’m writing this in the air somewhere between Tokyo and Singapore (closer to Tokyo I believe). Reflections on the past week? Like I said it was a flurry of a vacay but good nonetheless. No energy to blog while I was there so I am gonna catch ya’ll up, but I’ll separate it into 3 or 4 ... read more

I met with Yuka again on Sunday- she's way too fun dernit! This time I got to feel special by finding faster directions thru the Japanese train system from her house to mine. *dance* Her original route was going to take like 1.5-2 hours, but I gave her one that was a little over an hour.. 1.5 tops. ^-^v Anyways, she came over to my place so we could watch the 2nd Death Note movie, which I still hadn't seen yet- I was waiting to watch it with her. It was pretty interesting. Unfortunately they didn't finish the storyline (it would've required another 2 movies likely..), but they way they put the ending together, somebody who hasn't read the manga/seen the anime wouldn't suspect it should've gone longer, so that's good. The point in the ... read more

Want an ego boost? Be me, the other day, walking in Shinjuku. I was just walking along, wearing some of my new clothes and sporting some fancy hairdo I'd made up for the day, and I walked by an entire class of high school students. As was fairly typical fashion even for us in high school, all the guys were in 1 group, and all the girls were in another. The girls' group was in the front, and as soon as I was close to them, (they weren't even out of my vision yet!) I saw at least 3 of them gasp and quickly lean over to their friends, whispering loudly "Kakkou ii! Kakkou ii!", and I continued hearing it a LOT after they passed by me. I glanced back over my shoulder, and I ... read more

Thought it was about time to finish off Japan and get this blog up and running again! My last 2 weeks in Japan were great. The weather finally warmed up above 15 degrees which made it easier to get out and explore. I checked out Yokohama, Japan's second biggest city behind Tokyo. It's on the coast about a 20 min train ride from Omori. There's a massive stadium there where the soccer world cup final was played a few years back. There's also a Chinatown, apparently one of the biggest in the world but it didn't look that much bigger than ours back home. I tried these steamed dim sim type things in Chinatown from a shop that had a massive crowd of locals. I thought it must of been good if the locals were ... read more

First and foremost, I'd like to apologize about the strange times in between updates- my internet connection out here is crap, so it's difficult for me to upload all the pictures for each article I write. And I don't want to publish the article without the pictures, so often I end up with a finished article just waiting for the pictures to get uploaded before I publish it where you guys can see it. So I found out recently that actually quite a few of my Japanese friends here are interested in seeing the Death Note movies, but have yet to do so, so this will be a great time to watch movies with them^^ So, the other day, I got together with Yuka-san to watch the first Death Note movie together. This was the ... read more

小田原, Odawara An hour by train from our hotel brought us to the charming town of Odawara. Famed for its famous Castle (小田原城), this place is extremely lovely every spring when the sakuras within the castle grounds are in full bloom. And for 2 weeks, fellow Japanese would gather their picnic mats under the sakura trees to admire the beauty from Mother nature. I’m impressed that despite a scarcity of waste bins, no rubbish would be “conveniently” left behind after the picnickers have left! I’ve only seen sakuras on TV and on postcards. To be able to see them happening right before our every eyes was great. J started collecting the flower petals and I was taking picture perfect memories of them. Nearby, the elephants and the red face monkeys were also capturing our attention. ... read more

Yokohama aka 横滨 Our flight landed at Tokyo’s Narita Airport on 6th April 2007 after more than 7 hrs in the sky, 5491 km away from Singapore. It was 1.15pm when we landed after a horrendous roller coaster experience. This was the worst I encountered in my whole life. We thought the whole plane was going to crash! As soon as the aircraft doors opened, a gush of cold wind greeted me. This was spring in Japan and the temperatures were a low of 13.7 degrees. The Japanese Customs Officer was stern, fierce and unsmiling throughout the period he was examining my passport. After satisfying his own curiosity of the places I've been to, he finally gave me an arrival sticker blocking my Macau’s arrival stamp in the process. Are you blind my friend? Exchanging ... read more
