Er schrieb mir zurück, ... read more

Thanks to my time in Japan, I am perfectly ok with not bathing alone. It’s actually sorta lonely now. Onsen (温泉)is the name of the Japanese public baths and be for warned! They change the baths every once and a while so be sure you walk into the correct one. If you can’t read Kanji don’t fret my dears, they usually have it color coded and possibly in English as well. 女 - women's 男 - men's Also, sleeping on a futon is amazing!! It’s so cozy and fluffy and just enough cush but definitely bring your own pillow. Everyone looked at me funny and thought I was so weird walking through the airport and the city with pillow like a nut job dragging around a blanket or a body or something but no! Great. Idea. After arriving in Nagoya, I was picked up by one of the program directors of the program I am in and me and several other students participating in the same program shipped off our main baggage to the University and had a lovely stroll to central Nagoya with all our luggage in toe. And you know what? If was freakin fantastic. -_-“ everywhere you go there is small spaces and many, many people, so you are always tripping someone with your bag or knocking someone over with your backpack, or getting your junk all up in some strangers business. We eventually made our way to the hotel we were going to be staying for the day before heading out to Inuyama for a special program orientation before the Universities orientation (P.S. there are lots of orientations, ... read more

Warning: this blog post is being written post arrival day so I will make it sound a lot less hellish than it actually was. Ok so I actually left the states the 28th of August (though granted it was late on the 28th) but I didn't arrive in my host country until 2 days later. I'm sure there are plenty of horror stories throughout the blogs on this site about hellishly long travel days but I mean come on! Literally all of the 29th was spent lost somewhere between long lay overs, even longer flights, and the International Date Line. I don't know how long you all have traveled before but 24 hours in transit sucks! Besides that, I left at 8:30 at night in my home country, I had a full fridgen day before that ... read more

Nyt ... read more

Woke up during the night freezing, put my cardi on and snuggled in my sleeping bag. My alarm went off around eight ish. There were a good few snoozes before I turned the alarm off. We managed to get up and out within an hour. The weather was pissing down outside so we left my stuff at home, and we headed out for breakfast. The area where Tash lives is so quiet. There wasn't a soul about and the roads were pretty dead, too. It was about a ten minute walk to the cafe. The place we went to was called Komeda's cafe. It is an institution in Nagoya, I think it's been around for years and there are a few of them scattered around Nagoya. The cafe was heaving when we arrived and we had ... read more

A quickie in Nagoya! My mate had moved there, but her job was only for three months and with no long weekends for me and her visa not allowing her to leave Japan, it was a short hop across the ditch for a flying one night visit. No sleep what so ever! The jjimjilbang was freezing! And noisy to boot. I should of expected it on a Friday night in Itaewon. I was up, showered and out really quick. The subway didn't come until just after six, and I was at Gimpo airport by just after half six, and I'd had to change subways, too. Gotta love Gimpo airport for its proximity to Seoul proper. Also I love Jeju Air for their cheap flights, which made this trip possible, too. Check in was a breeze as ... read more

Monday was my last day trip from Kyoto and I was heading out to see another National Treasure castle at Inuyama. Apparently, it is the oldest standing castle in Japan. The other National Treasure castles are Hikone, Himeji (see previous blogs) and Matsumoto (see a future one, but not yet!). To get there I had to take 3 trains again, but I was glad that one of them was a shinkansen to Nagoya – the bullet trains are awesome. Eventually I arrived at Unuma station which is across the river from Inuyama. Again, there is a private railway that can get you closer, but it wasn’t far away and, as it turns out, it was a very nice walk. Crossing the bridge over the river gave a wonderful vista of the castle on the hill, and ... read more
