Sunset Cottages, in a village called Ahuwair, does exactly what it says in Lonely Planet: " " After our journey over from Lewoleba this place is exactly what we needed. The journey left us with a bitter taste of Indonesian life (OK, admittedly we weren't in a great mood to start the day with!) We arrived at the ... read more

Praise the Lord...I've found God in Ahuwair, Flores" You won't believe this but this morning I went to church!...no I haven't found God, Ina invited me and I couldn't really say no...of course I didn't understand a thing!. It was OK though, but I do tend to switch off in churches and found myself uncontrollably nodding off! how embarressing...plus I was sweating like a pig! I have decided I was being silly about my guide. I was talking to a Spanish guy today and he says its quite safe and by far the best way to travel through Flores. So today Patrick and I set off for Moni, a good 3-4 hours away...but 5 hrs with stops on the way. First stop Wuring Village, this is a muslim fishing village and the people are all from ... read more

I feel like a right heffer in my hut - I'm tip toeing round the place, otherwise I am convinced I'm going to fall through the floor...not that there is really anywhere to tiptoe, its about 1 step from the bed to the window and 2 steps from the bed to the door. I took a walk down the beach, ever seen cows, goats and pigs on a beach? well I have. There was this strange pig like animal with a really long nose, like an ant eater??! I took a pic, answers on a postcard please... I'm also feeling quite proud of myself, today I had my first conversation in Bahasa (the national language). Only consisted of a couple of ... read more

Uwahair....only tourist in town... This afternoon I arrived in Flores, a small island in Indonesia. The airport consisted of a short runway in a field and one building. The luggage gets put onto this 12 foot conveyor belt...not much unlike the supermarket checkout!. I was a bit reluctant to leave the safety of the airport as there was about 50 taxi drivers outside - and as only 4 tourists got off the plane - like lambs to the slaughter!! Fortunatley as I was contemplating how I was going to escape the frenzy outside a man came over and flashed a card for Sunset Cottages - which co-incidently was exactly where I was off to! Sunset Cottages aka "The End of the Earth" is fabulous! Its in this tiny town called Uwahair, I had a tiny bamboo ... read more
