The diversity and accessibility of beach getaways in South East Asia is truly remarkable. This can be partially attributed to the crowded skies which are filled with multiple budget airlines (Air Asia, Cebu Pacific, Jetstar, Zest Air, Malindo Air, Tiger Airways and Lion Air etc.) competing in a saturated market. Passengers, however, are not complaining as this healthy competition has pulled down fares making family travel an option for even those on tight budgets. The question beach developers must ask themselves is, “What type of beach getaways do all these tourists want in the first place?” There are really two major types of underlying preferences tourists have when they book beach getaways. Some tourists want to relax and enjoy the convenience of the beach they are going to and other tourists want to feel the seclusion ... read more

Arrival in Bali was traumatic! In brief - the flight was delayed, the airport ATM didn't accept VISA, paying for the taxi in dollars cost a fortune, the first town we tried, Legian was beautiful but too expensive, the second, Kuta was like Ibiza for Australians and the cheapest beer we found was over £2 a bottle. After a night in a pretty rough guest house we hired a bike to look around, got pulled by the police, I lost a ring on the side of the road and I burnt my leg badly on the bike exhaust. Thankfully, after this we found a decent hotel in Kuta out of the crazy night life street but still in the mix and things did improve. Bali is just one of 17,000 islands in the Indonesian archipelago and ... read more

In the end, maybe it’s wiser to surrender before the miraculous scope of human generosity and to just keep saying thank you, forever and sincerely, for as long as we have voices. – Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love I spend my final afternoon in Kuta Beach, the main tourist drag of Kuta in southern Bali. Heavy clouds drift overhead, casting a gloomy look on the long stretch of beach, though the general vibe of the area remains alive. I stroll along the dirty-white sand, passing a surfing school doing lessons with a few tourists who are learning to conquer the waves for the first time. A group of schoolchildren does some extracurricular activities, running towards me as soon as I signal to them my camera. Vendors sell bottles of Bintang beer, shirts and souvenirs. Somewhere in ... read more

Hello to all my followers, Today we took our rented car for a drive to Uluwatu and Seminyak. We stopped at a few beaches and had a swim. One of the beaches was very rocky and not enjoyable. The car parks were extremely small so it was hard to park our big van car but we did it. Although it took a lot of guiding. We had lunch at one of the beaches it was good. There was lots of surfers there and it was pretty cool to watch them. Next we went to Seminyak beach to watch the sunset. The sunset was beautiful. Me and my brothers had a sand castle competition that was lots of fun. My brother Isaac was the winner he made a sculpture of Merapi volcano in Yogyakarta. We then had ... read more

For the last day, we decided to take it slow and simply spend our day just chillaxing at the beach. We slept till it was really late, and slowly made our way to this nice little diners for our breakfast - Warung Totemo. We slowly had our breakfast and people watch for a while. We came to realised that there were alot of aussies there, and everyone seems to get around on a bike. This kinda reminded me of Macau. When we got to the beach, there were alot of people and makeshift drink stall owners. They were the ones responsible for the sun chairs as well. Do beware and remember to check for their pricing before taking up their offers. Some had drinks and shade for a certain price. While some of them have separate ... read more

This is one long over-dued post. However, it was such a fun trip for me and my girlfriend. This had been a trip of many 1st, it took me so long to sort through the photos, feelings and thoughts. I had planned this trip as my first solo trip overseas. However, one of my gf had wanted to go for a quick get-away, I asked her to join me. I decided to change my plans from a diving trip to a mountain climbing one to accommodate her. As it was both our maiden trip, I decided to look for land tours. There were alot and we decided to go with the recommendation from one of my other girlfriends - Bali Excellent Drivers. As my girlfriend's flight timing is different from mine, our driver, Komang, was still ... read more

Arriving back at Suji Bungalow in Bali was bittersweet. Bitter because, on one hand, it was the end of the trip. The end of all three of us hanging out together all day every day, the end of lazy days aboard a dive boat, the end of an adventure. On the other hand, sweet because it was a relief that we had pulled off a backpacking trip with our 10-month old baby without incident. We just had one more day left and then the dreaded 30 hour flight back home. We spent our final day escaping the humidity and craziness of Kuta by taking a private car and driver up to the rice terraces of Ubud. We headed out to see some of the steepest terraces first, just a short way north of Ubud just in ... read more

A Chip Off the Old Block Everyone else travels to Hawaii or the East Coast with a new baby. We, of course, in true Scott and Sharon style, had to choose somewhere a little more adventurous. Indonesia it was, with most of our time spent on Komodo and Sulawesi. For some reason, when Scott suggested that I go a week ahead of him to get Kyla time adjusted, I thought it sounded like a good idea. As the time approached, however, I wasn’t so sure. 30 hours in transit with a 10-month old suddenly seemed more daunting than exciting. On a cold and gray Sunday, Scott dropped us off for the 6:40pm airport bus from Carpinteria. That was the first time that I had actually carried everything at once: my big backpack, a shoulder bag, a ... read more

With our final 2 weeks in Asia approaching, us 3 girls were extremely excited to be making our way to Bali for two weeks of beaches, sunshine and surfer perving after having spent most of our time since Thailand within towns and cities. Our flight to Indonesia was departing from Singapore so we headed down with afew days spare to see what the city had to offer. Sometimes when I write up these blogs, I struggle to fit just a weeks activity into one entry but in this case, while I am sure that sitting back in snowy England, you would love to hear the fine details of our every movement from sun lounger to beach lounger to vodka to club, I will condense our last two and a half weeks in Asia to a briefer ... read more

On les ... read more
