First things first. Any grumbles I have need to be viewed in the context of the fact that I wrote the notes for this entry sat in the shade made by my own bamboo hut, looking out over a beautiful and near-empty sand beach, with the sound of the waves and the palm trees blowing in the wind giving me the natural equivalent of a relaxation tape. In other words, my two days on a beach in Goa might not have been perfect, but that's not to say that they didn't have their upsides... Anyway, I decided on Mandrem beach. Had scouted out a couple of beaches the day before, and it seemed to fall nicely between the concrete and chips of Calungate and Baga, and the irritating hippies of Arambol and Anjuna. The adventure for ... read more

Asia » India » Rajasthan » Jaipur March 26th 2006

The hostel (Evergreen House) we stayed in, in Jaipur, is FAB lovely garden and terrace cafe with lovely food!!! Its just so nice around here. At Bengali's insistence we went sightseeing! He had a whole itinerary planned out for us but we were quite happy to just mosy around. We went to the City Palace first. Located in the heart of the walled city, The City Palace Complex gives you an idea about the farsightedness of the founder of Jaipur Sawai Jai Singh. He left behind a legacy of some of the most imposing and magnificent architecture, art and craft structure in the city. Sawai Jai Singh built its many buildings but some of some of the structures were also built by later rulers and some of them are even dated in the in the twentieth ... read more

Asia » India » Rajasthan » Mount Abu March 26th 2006

Spent a few days in the hill station of Mount Abu. Shree Ganesh guest house runs walks around the surrounding hillsides....20 rps and you can go on as many as you like. Not a bad little place at all. Mount Abu was a welcome relief in Rajasthan, not only as it was a little cooler...in fact got well chilly at night, but also because finally it was the Indian tourists getting all the hassle. Spent 2 days doing the treks, unfortunately on the last day our guide was ill so we bailed on the treks...still I had to sort my train ticket out of there to Mumbai.... read more

Asia » India » Maharashtra » Mumbai March 26th 2006

OK. I have lost impetus on this blog. I'm not in India anymore. I thought I could keep writing it in retrospect but its really hard! I have lots to add to the following, I have hand written notes and everything... and I may update this over the weekend, but people have been asking for the next chapter and the quickest way to give it is to plagiarise. And quite frankly, although it's not the same way I'd write it, Toby is a better writer than I am! (don't tell him I said that) So check these two out for the Mumbai chapter at the end of my trip (feel free to read the rest of his trip too - its quite interesting!). My mumbai-for-the-cricket summary is: It was brilliant, I love Mumbai, we had a ... read more

Asia » India » Uttar Pradesh » Agra March 26th 2006

I finally made it to Agra, city of the Taj Mahal (pronounced MUH-hel). I left last Monday morning, March 20, at about 5:30 a.m., arriving at New Delhi train station while it was still dark. What a terrible place! And so busy, even at that hour, that I had to get out half a block before the station and walk. But the train was on time and two hours later I was met in Agra by a car and driver. It was the start of my Golden Triangle road trip: Delhi-Agra-Jaipur is India's most travelled tourist route. Originally, I had no plans to make this trip, but I decided I wanted to see Rajasthan (Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan) and I still hadn't seen the Taj, so, away I went .... Agra is a perfect ... read more

Asia » India » Uttarakhand » Rishikesh March 26th 2006

So, travel blogs are easy when the internet is fast. Luckily, here in the beautiful city of Rishikesh (where the Beatles spent six month sharpening their sitar playing skills), in addition to being the 'yoga capital of the world', the 'gateway to the Himilayas,' and one of the holier cities in on the Ganges river, Rishikesh also has fast internet. This is my second journal entry to my travel blog that I'm not sure anyone is receiving or that I'm doing correctly; it's very exciting. Since my first entry, Jordana, Rachel and I have covered a lot of ground in Northern India, maturing from the luxurious and always delayed trains, to learning how to ride the public buses. After Pushkar, where we ended up hanging around an extra day because it's incredibly relaxing (which is another ... read more

so it has been forever since i "blogged" ...is that even a word...and if so...can we not use it ever again... yeah me and computers are having it out lately...first of all, the photos won't load and all the computers do is choke and freeze. so i put them on a cd and now the computers won't read the cd and that is if the internet connection will stay connected long enough to send anything and that is all depending on whether the power can stay on....i actually kinda like it (most of you know how much i love technology and our apparent dependency on it)...but i would like to simply put some of these amazing photos up for ya'll. but i am alive and minus one crown. ( i have pictures...but you can't see 'em)that ... read more
