Villes visités : New Delhi, Mandawa, Bikaner, Jaselmeir, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Pushkar, Jaipur, Agra, Varanasi, Amritsar. ... read more

We arrived in Delhi after a one hour delay ready to get out and explore. We caught a taxi to our hotel and I was dismayed to see dirty sheets and no window. In hindsight, the hotel room was not that bad at all (and Tayla was desperately trying to tell me this) but for some strange reason I had a breakdown and insisted on moving hotels. Looking back, all I can think is that it was a small dose of home sickness! We went for a walk to have some lunch and see what other hotels we could find. As we were walking along the street, I suddenly became soaked with water… Two guys on a motorbike drove past and hurled a large water balloon at me bursting all over my chest! Thankfully I did ... read more

I dragged myself out of bed and headed to the airport to meet Ruth, they charge people to get into meet their loved ones but I didnt bring any money so I had to wait outside. When Ruth arrived she couldn't see me waiting out there and security wouldn't let me in so I grabbed a man entering pointed her out and asked him to send her out. We returned to my hotel so Ruth could have a wash then began the long drive to Orchha stopping a couple of times along the way, the second stop was at Datia where a child magician put on an entertaining show just for us in the shadows of the stunning hilltop palace, it reminded me of the young tightrope walker I saw a few weeks before in Bihar. ... read more

We continued on our final leg of the journey with no overnight halts this time around. We had two cars, Innova, to be specific, six in one car and five in the other as had been the arrangement with us from the day we started off from Manali. Our Tour Leader ensured that we carried at least one oxygen cylinder in each car in case of an emergency owing to low air pressure which we would face on our way especially on the passes resulting in less intake of oxygen. So, we had kept two cartons of water bottles in each car to hydrate ourselves at short regular intervals to counter the acute mountain sickness (AMS). Since now it was going to be one long journey of ascents, descents, passes and plains with only quick stops/breaks ... read more

I was hoping to see the same enthusiasm in my fellow travellers who had come from all over the Country to embark on this mystical journey with me. Another aspect of traveling that I look forward to is interacting with people who are in the same boat as you, carrying stories with them and somehow wired similarly to you. The bonds you develop with people you meet on your travels is profoundly strong. It's so overwhelming to see how you just assimilate yourself with people so effortlessly without any facade and layers of pretence. You learn and discover so much together and even individually, you realise you are so much more than just what you think you are which otherwise you cannot get to know half as much in your ordinary mundane life. I was introduced ... read more

I always knew deep down, for the longest time, that I wanted to do Ladakh some day. And this thought seemed a distant dream to me, rather unthinkable back then when I started to work a few years ago as a Corporate Lawyer in one of the Legal Firms in Delhi. I have always lead a very cliched' life. Always had this burning desire to travel, to explore the unknown, to rediscover myself and to tread a path filled with stories and memories. However, I never tried to look inside of me, my passion, my dreams. They were lying dormant somewhere deep down inside of me waiting to be unleashed and to be unfolded. It just so happened that sometime last year in the month of July, I finally took the call of pulling out of ... read more

So I made it through the last day in Ahmedabad. It was great to relax for a day and just do not a lot....but I did do quite a bit looking back on it. After a morning of writing and organizing I decided I better see some of the city and area. I went down to the street and walked across the Nehru Bridge to get to one of the Auto stands. At one point a group of young guys in their teens came up to me and wanted each to have their picture taken with me. It seems that just being white here in parts of the city are like being a celebrity. They toom their pictures and then off to do whatever they were doing to start with. Then I was approached by a ... read more

The underbelly of travelling cheaply is that compromises have to be made in oder to lower the cost. When we booked Wongdhen House we chose it for its value, being fairly cheap yet fairly good condition. To save money we booked it for two nights only - the 7th and 8th. Because check in time is noon, and our flight arrived into Delhi at 4.30am this morning (the 7th) we agreed to wait until noon for a driver to pick us up. Cue eight hours of waiting. There is only so long I can spend disinterestedly reading Reddit before it becomes a chore. Ultimately it was eight hours of nothingness: it wasn't even boring. It just felt like a stretch of absent-presence. Marc Auge describes airport waiting rooms as non-places designed to be almost outside time ... read more
