We have already missed Kerela while we are enjoying the beatiful beaches of Goa. Goan food is also delicious as Kerela food. Good quality prawns are catched in Goa and they are sent even to south Kerela. We usually preffered sea food we felt sad when we left Goa. It was a nice 13 hrs. journey by night train to Mumbai. We were shocked by the crowds we faced. We dropped at CST station which may be concidered at the center of Mumbai. The train we left Mumbai, started from a station (Bandra Terminus) far apart from the center. Our recommedation to the foreign travellers is to get their ticket from "Churgegate Station" which is very near to the CST station. Foreign Tourist Counter, First Floor, Window 28. END OF DAYS…. In Mumbai again to spend our last day. We left the great town of Udaipur at 5:00am and took a flight into Mumbai where we arrived at 9:30am. We leave tonight at 2:30am so we were obligated to get a hotel room (since we don’t plan to lug our stuff around with us wherever we go), even though we won’t be spending too much time there. The hotel is called the Quality Inn, and it should rename itself because it’s far from quality. The bedroom is okay looking, and the bathroom is okay at first glance. But then as you enter the bathroom, and as you inch in, you see the lovely rotted molding is enough to make me miss being in Udaipur. The room is $90 (around 4000 rupees) a night. Surprisingly, ... read more

In my emails home, the word I generally use to describe my flights is 'uneventful'. It certainly doesn't apply this time! As both of our flights left the same night, Joel and I went to the airport together. Mine was the earlier flight, so I checked in well ahead of time, located what I thought was my boarding gate and then went back to wait with Joel. After a leisurely dinner and coffee, we wandered down to the gate, reluctantly said our tearful farewells (no, really there was just a lot of manly back-slapping and hand-shaking!) and I passed through my boarding gate... only to find it wasn't actually my boarding gate after all. Walking increasingly quickly down a number of corridors and round numerous corners, I finally came in sight of my elusive gate. I ... read more

So we arrived at Mumbai early morning (January 26th) and jumped in a rickshaw to the train station we were to leave from to drop off our big bags. Then we spent a hour reading newspaper and drinking coffee followed by two hours at the post office which was half closed. It was Republic Day so the Sea Mail was closed but the Air Mail was open. We could only send our goods Air Mail and I still don't understand why they couldn't stamp it Sea Mail and be done with it. The whole thing took about two hours for us to send a package. Cost a little less than $100 to send goods worth just about the same. But, we were happy to unload some weight. Once that was done, we proceeded to walk towards ... read more

In Mumbai now and having a really bad time!! We got picked up from the airport yesterday and taken to our hotel. It is in the most horrible area - definitely down town Mumbai and the hotel is horrible (like really disgusting with windows that don't shut properly, broken lights etc). And the hotel was full of local people, there were no tourists to be seen anywhere. We felt completely distraught and went straight to the Internet cafe to find the numbers of the airline (to try and bring our flight forward), the number for STA (who we'd booked the hotel through - we've already started on the complaint letter and taken pictures of the hotel!) and the number for the hotel where staying in in Bankok (to see if we can stay a day earlier). ... read more

Our flight was delayed at Goa this afternoon by about 45 minutes, there was nothing to do at the airport at all... We arrived in Mumbai and our driver was there as promised, relatively pain free, Mumbai airport was definately more busy than Delhi, we didn't get warned about this one. We arrived at the hotel, checked in and then got to our room- I thought he was joking when he opened the door.. The room was absolutely filthy, damp covered the walls, the air-conditioning unit was falling off the wall and window was jammed open- plus swarm of mosquitos flying around... So the room was a mess, we could deal with that- even though we thought it couldn't get ant worse than our room in New Delhi, here it was, we were in a dump! ... read more

After 27 hrs on planes we arrived in Mumbai (Bombay) at 03:30 AM and met our driver, Amin, who gave us an amazing tour of Mumbai. A city with a population somewhere between 15 and 20 million on an island about the size of Montreal Island. As soon as you arrive in Bombay you notice the smell of the city. Here is an excerpt from a book called Shantaram where the authour, Gregory David Roberts, describes that smell that I cannot describe any better than this: "The first thing I noticed about Bombay, on that first day, was the smell of the different air. I could smell it before I saw or heard anything of India, even as I walked along the umbilical corridor that connected the plane to the airport. I was excited and delighted ... read more

We are in Mumbai, now. It's pleasantly hot...the streets are teeming with people, vendors and traffic. We woke up late today after the 22 hour-long train trip from Delhi. It takes a few days for your mind to arrive in India. Our bodies arrived at Delhi airport in the midst of the coldest weather here in 70 years. A pall of wood smoke hung over the city as people (mainly the poor) were burning anything to stay warm. The "hordes of humanity" as Darla put it were waiting outside the airport even though it was after midnight. Fortunately, our guest house had sent a driver who was holding a sign with our names on it. We drove through the dark streets to the Master Paying Guest House in a quiet suburb. Our room was cold - ... read more

Friday the 13th. The superstitious probably wouldn't have gone anywhere today, but I had to be back in the UK this weekend so, with some reluctance, we had to leave the pleasures of the beach for the city of Mumbai (Bombay). The morning was spent repacking and the afternoon flying by Jet Airways northwards back to Mumbai. It was an uneventful journey. Pintu, on his second flight, was now an old hand at this flying lark. Neither of us was prepared for the journey from Mumbai Airport into the city, however. The taxi which I'd arranged to meet us at the airport failed to materialise, so we took an air-conditioned cab with a meter, expecting it to cost around 400 Rupees. The traffic was ridiculous, however, and we spent ages in jams, resulting in a final ... read more
