Home again Sunday, 30th Oct - we are now home, having landed at Heathrow, 6:30am on Sunday. This last set of photos shows some of the action on the waterways around Hong Kong Island, which we saw on Saturday after checking out from the hotel. Victoria Harbour is home to some extensive container shipping facilities and is the world's businest port. As it got dark, you can see how the scenery was transformed to a crisp and colourful scene. There are some additional photos, including a night time panorama in the Gallery.... read more

Made it to Hong Kong after quite a long 8 hour flight from Brisbane. The area is very vibrant and exciting. We've a very nice room on the 25th floor, with a great view over the water and to Kowloon. In the "full text" area, scroll down and look at some of the photos, and also look at the new set in the "gallery" area. ... read more

I like Hong Kong. Maybe it's because I view it as a safe haven before we head to mainland China or maybe it's because it reminds me of London. Staying in Kowloon - surrounded by shops and "copywatch" salesmen - we often made the trip across to hong Kong Island by the famous Star Ferry. This busy, no frills commuter service, with choice of upper or lower deck, was one of the highlights of my trip to Hong Kong. Providing David with 7 minutes to complete the Sudoko puzzle and me 7 minutes to catch up on world news, we felt like locals. We haven't felt like locals since May. Hong Kong's skyline by day or night is dramatic. From the building work that seems to be going on on every street corner, the obsession for ... read more

Since our last entry, we have been busy. On Oct 16, we visited Frank Yu in Shekou, Shenzhen, China. We also posted a photo album of our visit. For those are interested in Frank, but did not receive the link to the album, please send us an email. On Oct 19, we went to Zhong Shan (Chung Shan, Shek Kee), China with Mui Jer. We visited Mui Jer's sister Ah Ling. From Hong Kong, we took a bus to Chung Shan. The bus first drove us to the HK border. We completed the immigration business at the Hong Kong side, board the same bus, enter China immigration, and we board the same bus which took us to Chung Shan. At Chung Shan, we took a taxi to Ah Ling's place. The whole trip cost HK$90 each ... read more

October Friday 14th-22nd : Guelph/Kettleby/T.O. Guelph: Lovely to spend some time with Yessie, whom I haven’t spent much time with over the past few years, and was so happy to hang with. We ate pad thai ‘til I nearly keeled over, had some good cawfey tawlks and watched ‘batteries not included’ -what pattootters those little ‘bots were. Never met the elusive roommate Dan, who hibernated…what’s the status on that one girl? //Apres Jess, I visited Gemma, who had cute roommate Matt deux.( hehhy-ey!...paige’s gay horse joke has become the, well my house joke. Hehehe) Went out when I shouldn’t have and bronchitis. Shyiht. (poo-ya) So, yeah, I had a sore throaght, and thought I’d abstain from substances when I went to trivia night at Jimi Jazz. Owed Gemma a drink, so I ‘had’ to toast her ... read more

While in New Jersey, we attended my niece's wedding and met our aunt and cousins who live in New Jersey and New York. It was a wonderfu re-union. We arrived in Hong Kong on Oct 11, 2005. The continental flight from Newark, New Jersey was 15.5 hours non-stop and quite comfortable, except the food deserves no honourable mention. After a couple of days of settling down, we headed out to Shenzhen to visit the massage areas that we used to frequent. The area is called BarDung, and populated by many Taiwan citizens and locals. Instead of 10 massage parlours, there are now 25, and some with much better facilities. We spent about four hours in body masage, foot massage, Thai style shampoo, etc, and spent US$12 each. The parlour we went to even has sauna and ... read more

Hong Kong, cant help but be awed looking at that skyline; we took the bus from Yangshao, 11 hours and a very nice travel gift provided by the bus company. A jar of spicy bean curd, I'm saving mine for a very special occasion. Kowloon, the peninsular section of Hong Kong is where a group I travelled with from Yangshao set me up. A huge designer store on every corner, copy Rolex touts filling the streets, and never ending phone, camera, video game stores. Chaos but with manners. Its the seedier part of Hong Kong, would be a bugger in the hot season as its almost all concrete but the subway station is so huge you can nearly walk to the other side of the peninsula underground, nice but easy to get lost. The area behind ... read more

Just tucking into my free vegetarian noodles, salty dumplings and spring roll after saying a prayer to Buddha and numerous other god-type effigies. I feel truely blessed now, so blessed that I decided to see what He had in store for me...So I brought my pot of a hundred of so numbered sticks, knelt down in front of the glistening gold Buddah, (I think it was him anyway, they all look the same after a while), and started shaking the pot. At first there was a clear winner, and I could see determination and speedy progress on the horizon, but then that stick dropped back, as if it was a possible future, but currently unobtainable. Up comes the 2nd and 3rd and I started to panic about the curses that may unfold if I greedily drew ... read more
