I’m Official I'm officially here now. I have both my passport with the new extended visa, good through July 31, 2007, and my foreign expert working permit (certificate) that looks like a red passport with PR China's seal on the front. I owe the Nanjing Normal University Foreign Affairs Office a big thank you for stepping me through this process. My bus rides back and forth to the suburban campus have been interesting. If the bus isn't full, I ride alone and I read, work, rest, etc. Most of the time someone joins me. Today I shared the seat with a Ph.D. in Political Science. It was very interesting because Chinese politics are a different game. He asked me a lot of questions about my opinions: which president do I like best; why. I don’t want ... read more

When I get a laptop, in about 6 weeks, I will upload lots of photos for you to see! But I can say that they are hen mei li!... read more

They changed my name! I am no longer Xiao Lei, I am now Wan Lei...But I liked Xiao Lei! My Tai Chi instructor was explaining the meaning of it to me last night, Xiao means small, Lei means 3 stones....Quite what the significance of 3 stones is I do not know. But now I am Wan Lei...Everyone at EF gets a chinese name from Malones beginning with Wan...For example, Steve is called Wan Ke....Awesome name! I think they said Wan means science...Either science or king...I think I will complain, I want Xiao Lei!!! I took some photos yesterday in the beautiful garden, I will see if I can upload them in a little bit. I had my tai chi instructor come over to my place and we exchanged language lessons, it was a very basic lesson ... read more

I have about 10 minutes to kill before I must return to another training workshop! Sorry I haven't updated much, I've been incredibly busy! Just to update you all....I'm still having a pretty cool time, my job is really good fun and I think very soon I will get out of the habit of waking up early in the mornings dreading the working day ahead because to be honest, this is a very nice job and my salary here is very high by local standards. I've made a few more friends...Met some business man and his girlfriend in Malone's bar the other night when Lucy was too busy to practice english and chinese with me. This guys name was Pond and he spoke very good English and suggested we go out sometime. Also on my way ... read more

Hello everyone! Thanks for the comments, although I am not too sure who some people are! Please make your names clearer! I went to a chinese disco the other day with the other teachers, was a bit of an experience, lots of crappy asian techno and chinese people standing there swaying....Not dancing just swaying...And me and the teachers standing in the corner doing the macerena! Every so often it would stop for some strange performances that sometimes involved attractive women not wearing much, which was cool! My sleeping patterns have been well and truly messed up. After going out to the chinese disco on wednesday evening, we then went to Malone's where I practiced some more chinese with Lucy and I got so hyped up from it that when I got home I couldn't sleep. I am here! I had a wonderful flight with Virgin Atlantic, hardly anyone on the plane so lots of leg room, although I don't think I will ever be able to get used to sleeping on a plane. Had a nice 2 hour long car journey to Zhangjiagang from Shanghai thanks to Jane and her driver who met me at the airport. I was a bit worried that they would be late but they were there! Then I got to my apartment and it is wonderful! Exactly how it looks in the pictures, and I even have a TV, however it is not possible to put this in my room due to the aerial cable being being very long and connected to another room and blah blah blah! I think I'm still a bit jet lagged, ... read more
