so, while I'm trying to upload some videos of the show, I'll update you on the rest of the week. Last week, Carol asked Candice and Fabrice if a camera crew from the local tv channel could film them for a day. It wouldn't be that weird except hat the reason the picked the 2 of them is that their skin is darker! lol, anywhere else that would be racist and offensive, but not in China. They said that they want to show that they have people of all races teaching at our school, so thats kind of nice i guess..i don't know its just funny that they would even ask them and not think it was weird... So, yea..monday morning around 8am the camera crew knocked on our apt building door cause they were there ... read more

So the internet's been down again and therefore I haven't been able to write in awhile. For some reason only skype works, which I guess is good..but we can't look at any websites..the computer guys have been working on it though so eventually we should be able to get online, for now though its back to the internet cafe, lol. so anyway, the latest news.. Flora called us Sunday morning and asked us if we wanted to meet her for lunch, and then she'd take us to setup our cellphones and to the wholesale flea market place. She met us at our school and then we took cabs to a restaurant not too far away. While looking at the menu (which is all in Chinese without any pics) Steve and Drew recognized the character for "snake", ... read more

A few updates before a million more things happen and I forget about these.. On Wed. we went to the police station to register so they can give us our resident permits..overally it was fine and didn't take too long except that they didn't accept the form filled out in blue pen so Steve & Fabrice had to re-do their whole thing..and then both of their passport pics that we had to give them weren't acceptable for whatever reason so they had to pay to have them taken there.. Earlier in the week, a Chinese lady named Flora called Drew's room phone (she had it from the CIEE teachers last year) and invited us to go out to dinner with her on Thursday. So Thurs. night she met us at our apt. and went to a ... read more

After my last class yesterday around 4:00, I got back to the room and decided that it was really rediculous that we had to go down the street to the internet cafe and buy something even just to check our email or quickly look up something especially when there are tons of computers on the school's campus. So, I called Carol and asked her if there was a computer somewhere I could use to get online for a little while. She said that she'd have the computer teachers come look at the problem, and surprisingly he actually showed up knocking on our building's door 5 minutes later. Luckily I was there to let them in and they were there for awhile looking at different things with the modems and on my computer. They said that they ... read more

Wow, so our internet really isn't working at all now and a million things have happened in the last few days that wanted to write about..and of course can't remember at now, lol..but I'll try. Well, on Friday after eating dinner at "our" restaurant where we ate either lunch or dinner each day last week, and hanging out here, at the internet cafe for awhile..we went out to find the bar where all the foreigners hangout. With the help of facebook (some guy saw that I was coming to teach here and wrote to me that that where they usually hangout) and the fact that their one of the only signs in english...we found it. A pretty tiny bar full of of random foreigners, lol. Steve asked this English guy if he was a teacher and ... read more

Well I went to Nanjing 2 days ago, and I came back to Zhangjiagang the following day. I wasn't the slightest bit impressed by what I saw, nor could I be bothered to do all the touristy things, nor did I want to spend much more money and I also felt ill and just wanted to go back home to rest. Upon arrival in Nanjing I had some difficulties finding myself a place to stay, but after phoning Paul who was in Nanjing and knew the number of the cheap hostel, and a few phone calls and a helpful taxi driver later I finally managed to find my way to the cheap hostel in Fuzi Miao (or however you spell it). The hostel was nice, although there were no lockers in the dorm rooms so I ... read more

Well I got back yesterday from a really nice 3 day long holiday in Shanghai with Sam and Nicole, Steve and Paul. I was intending to stay a little longer and then head straight off to Nanjing, but I felt satisfied with the time I'd had in Shanghai and decided to come back to Zhangjiagang and offload some of my stuff and sort out somethings and I will head off to Nanjing tomorrow. I still love Shanghai, it's a beautiful city. I stayed in a hostel called the Captains Hostel on Fuzhou Lu right near the bund. It was 70RMB a night for a bed and it was a really good place. The so called English breakfast really wasn't worth the 25RMB I paid for it though. There's a really nice bar on the top of ... read more

Sorry for the long delay in blog entries! I haven't really had much to write about lately, plus I've been busy at work so not really anytime to do anything exciting. It's currently winter school which means I get hardly any time off, I'm currently on day 7 of a 10 day stretch with no breaks. It doesn't suck as much as it sounds because the hours are very regular, I only teach 2 classes a day and I'm finished by 3:15 in the afternoon, which suits me really nicely. Sometimes I get the mornings off because I've finished 2 courses lately. And this morning was the second morning I've just watched a film with my class, so it's not all that bad. The week before last I took full advantage of the huge amounts of ... read more

Due to an earthquake in Taiwan or something like that, the internet in China has been rather dead, leaving me with no opportunity to update my blog. Finally the internet seems to work well enough to update it now, although there is still a lot of slowness and pages not loading. In a few weeks it should all be fine again. Note the title of this post, it means I love Shanghai! The christmas and new years eve week was spent with some time in Shanghai. Christmas day was rather dull and boring and I was glad when it was over. I did however go out for a very, very nice meal with the other teachers from my school. I took the opportunity to go to Shanghai the day after boxing day to visit my friend ... read more
