Wednesday - Was a travel day we used to cross the border into mainland China. Did not have enough time to see more of the senic spots of Hong Kong, maybe next time. This day would turn out ot be very interesting and a nightmare of sorts. Too much luggage!!!!!!!!! Our trip would only be a few hours but would require several bus changes. Some of the senic views along the way would be amazing! You will have to ask me about the battling bus driver stories I have..... First, we would be stopped at a check point to check to see if we were ill or sick the we get back on our original bus. Next, we would be required to stop at the Mainland China border and cart our luggage across the border but, ... read more

W21/03/2007: A beautiful day at Guangzhou zoo Asia » China » Guangdong » Guangzhou By LilooChinaMarch 21st 2007The zoo of Guangzhou is one of the biggest zoos in China. The entrance is quite expensive for China (about 12 euros) but you can enjoy seeing animals that you will probably never see outside Asia like pandas. Moreover, that’s the first time I touched a baby white tiger and I remember that in France it’s impossible to touch such animals in any zoo. I and my friends behaved like children but how can we act differently front of this fantastic exhibition of animals from all over the world?! We can just say: “WWWAAAAAAA!!!! I want it at h... read more

last night, we arrived at our hotel in shenzhen from hongkong at around 10pm. the highlight of our tour in shenzhen is the visit to the window of the world. before proceeding to the window, the tour guide brought us to the mineral and silk factory, jade factory etc. at 12 noon, we had our sumptuous meal in a chinese restaurant. after our lunch, we went to the window of the world at last. what a lovely place. we hopped from one place to another to take photos. very interesting day. you get to see a lot of places around the world in one place :) we were inside the window for 3 hours then our tour guide met us outside at 4pm.. she then brought us to the shopping district in shenzhen (too sad, i ... read more

On that day, Rym was the Queen. She celebrated her 23rd birthday in China and we offered her a set for painting. I was in charge of buying the birthday cake and for the price of a piece of cake in any pastry in France, I got an enormous fruit cake hyper delicious! Mmmhhh… She was touched by our small gesture because we don’t know each other since a long time but it promises that our new friendship will last forever… :-D By the way, I hope she will discover soon her talent of painter for decorating the white walls of our apartment! HAPPY BIRTHDAY RYM! WE WISH YOU ALL THE BEST! ... read more

S17/03/2007 : Baiyun mountain Asia » China » Guangdong » Guangzhou By LilooChinaMarch 17th 2007 Our MBA classmates invited us for a healthy walk at Baiyun mountain situated in Guangzhou. We really enjoyed breathing natural air without pollution (almost…)!!! We took the bus for our first time in China as it is impossible for foreigners to take it without knowing how to read Chinese. Buses are very clean like the metro in Guangzhou and you can read the newspaper for free because newspapers are attached to the seats. What a clever concept! We really enjoyed walking in that mountain even though the sunny weather was not present at all… Baiyun ... read more

Rachel's here! Rachel's here! I've spent a total of three years in China now, and this is the first time anyone has ever come visit me. I've been dancing around in anticipation for weeks! And now she's here! Rachel arrived in Hong Kong on the 15th and after a wonderful trip on various forms of public transportation (take the bus from the airport to the train stations, take the train to the border, walk across the border, and finally take a taxi from the border to home), she arrived in my wonderfully quaint little apartment and said, "This is cute. I love the way the shower is in the middle of the bathroom and you have to squeegy the floor after each shower." Actually, she didn't say that, but I could see it in her ... read more

F16/03/2007: who is karaoke ?! Asia » China » Guangdong » Guangzhou By LilooChinaMarch 16th 2007 As all the stomachs had to be filled for being the best singer of the night, we were invited by Alma and Chocolate at a Cantonese restaurant where we ate very nice typical Cantonese food. Then, we went to a karaoke place at Changshu Lu where you can do shopping until midnight at least! At the karaoke place, compare to our Chinese friends, we had very professional attitudes (look at Gilles!) but we have not their beautiful voice like those of people from “Star Academy” TV show at all! I think that it was one of my best evening here in China a... read more

Hi there!!! Ni hao ma? (How are you?) Sorry for beeing so crappy with keeping you updated on my China life lately... Hope you're good! Heard the sun has started showing its pretty face lateley :) That usually makes a nice change after a dark winter! Wo hen hao! (I'm very good!) Really happy to have started stuying Chinese! Started Thursday last week, in a beginners class of 20 people in different ages, from literally all over the world - Brazil, Panama, France, Egypt, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Korea, USA, Thailand, Ukraine, Mexico... It's really cool to have such a mix, especially in a city like Guangzhou with so little Westerners - at least where I live. My place is about 30 minutes walk from Uni, which is perfect. Have also started working with my dad's ... read more

Shenzhen is one of the most modern city of China. It is situated at one hour and a half by train from Guangzhou. I and my friends really enjoyed staying there and we were very astonished about the beauty of that place. We took the bus from our University with the help of Joanna who is a MBA student in Lingnan. She helped us a lot for taking that bus because we would never find it without her help I think! The bus is the cheapest way to go to Shenzhen. You save about 3 euros compare to the train and the bus drives you directly in the center of Shenzhen city. We arrived in Shenzhen in the park we wanted to visit first: Windows of the world. As we heard about Shenzhen, there isn’t a ... read more

Today, we got the luck to have a free tour of Guangzhou thanks to our welcome university. We went to the temple of the Chen family’s ancestors I had already visited last Wednesday and we went to the Guangzhou museum which is in Yuexiu Park. As you already know how is the temple of the Chen Family’s ancestors, I will not tell you more about it. Let me just present you the Guangzhou museum… The pictures will explain you in a better way than mine what beautiful historical objects the museum encloses. ... read more
