Well folks, after spending a few more days in Sihanoukville i got a bit restless and am now back in Phnom Pehn awaiting my air asia carriage out of here on friday morning. The original plan was for me and Mop to gradually make our way to Bangkok for our flights home next week but we didnt count on..................THE FEMALE FACTOR! Mop has fallen in love and is currently residing 24 hours a day with a nubile cambodian woman in a bungalow in Sihanoukville.Good luck to him. My own concerns with the cambodian females were compounded when it it turned out that the girl i was seeing in fact turned out to be my ex-wifes asian sister. The familiarities were so bloody scary i packed her off home and am now residing in the air-con pool ... read more

OK , so the lads are together on holiday doing what lads do best: Drinking and womanising basically!!! Ended up back in Phnom Penh and have found ourselves unable to leave as all the buses leave around 7/8 am and quite frankly we dont see daylight at the minute until 3 pm!!! Spent our first day back here doing some shooting at what is probably a very highly illegal shooting range!! Not quite air pellet guns or clay pigeon shooting: This is Cambodia so not a problem for AK47 Machine Guns and Colt 45s!!!! Didnt splash out on the rocket launcher at $200 a pop nor the hand grenades at $50 each though. As we thought that would just be highly irresponsible. Then it was off to the killing fields to see the mass graves and hundreds ... read more

We have been in Phnom Phen for 5 days now and feel that we have taken in more images in the past days than what we have the rest of the time we have been on the road. It is hard to try and explain what Cambodia is like - the best way to describe it is perhaps by saying there is so much human suffering here and it is all right in your face from the moment you set foot outside your guesthouse until you return in the evening. We are staying in a nice little guesthouse along the river and literally cannot walk for 10 meters at the time without being stopped by people with horrible disabilities, street children who look desperate, filthy and are quite often naked and other people who are begging ... read more

I left Pai yesterday morning and was on the bus the entire day, getting into Bangkok around 10pm. I got a few hours of sleep and then I was on my way to the airport to get my flight to Phnom Penh. I'm pretty tired right now, but am happy to explore this new place. Phnom Penh is a very quiet city compared to Bangkok, which kind of surprised me. They drive on the right side of the road, which is also a little bit of a shock. I did most of the sight-seeing I want to do for the day, so I just need to run some errands and then get a good night's sleep before heading to Siam Reap tomorrow. I'm posting some pictures. Will post again in a couple days. It's great hearing ... read more

Walked to Capitol to see if our day trip was a go, but no one else showed up, there had to be a minimum of 6 people. Had breakfast and walked back to Michelle’s. Read about Viet Nam and tried to form a rough itinerary. Went out to get Chinese massages and then back to Michelle’s to relax. These massages were different than any other massage that I had because in the beginning and end of the massage they pile on heaps of scalding hot towels all over your body, it actually got pretty hot and heavy, but then it was complete relaxation once they were taken off. Ordered a pizza for delivery and watched DVDs. By the way, if you haven’t figured it out, you can get anything for delivery in Phnom Penh. We went ... read more

Slept in, lazy morning, didn’t leave the house until about 1:30pm, had lunch at Bamboo (Filipino food), was pretty good. Got a tuk-tuk to the Russin market. Bought some kramas (traditional Khmer scarves). Went back to Michelle’s and ordered Russian food for delivery from Irena’s Restaurant, to keep with the day’s theme. Watched a DVD.... read more

This was our “Genocide Day.” Hired a tuk-tuk at the Golden Gate Guest House to take us to Choeng Ek (the Killing Fields). On the way out of the city, we saw that it doesn’t take very long to start seeing rural areas. We passed fields and a bunch of garment factory workers on our way out to the Killing Fields. Cambodia is home to many of the mass produced clothing that we wear…I won’t name any names, look at your labels. We were told it was a bumpy ride out there, but we had no idea it would be so bad, bone rattling would be a better description. If you’re going to go there, ladies better have your sport bras ready! It was also incredibly dusty, since half of the ride is on dirt roads. ... read more

Got up at 4AM and in a taxi to the airport by 5AM. Todd bought a book in the airport, Off the Rails in Phnom Penh, by Amit Gilboa, to set the mood. The flight departed around 7AM and we were in Phnom Penh by 8ish. Felicia’s friend Michelle met us at the airport and we took a taxi back to her house. Visited for a while then went out to lunch at Friends Restaurant. The restaurant belongs to a charity which provides skills training to disadvantaged and homeless youth—the staff are kids enrolled in the program. The charity works to build skills with these kids so that they can have more opportunities in their future employment in the hospitality industry. The tapas style food was superb. Michelle went home to work and we went off ... read more

So we finally got to see Phnom Penh and it was great! We started by visiting the Cheung Elk Killing Fields, 13km out of the city. It was pretty horrible stuff, seeing the exhumed mass graves and the trees where prisoners were tied and beaten. There was also a 7storey high stupa filled with skulls, bones and clothing that was found in the mass graves. A truly horrific sight, but a good way to remember the dead and give them and their relative some sense of peace. We visited the Russian market on the way back into town - a seething mass of stalls of everything; food, clothes, household items and motorbike parts. Our favourite area was the food (of course) where little old ladies cooked over flaming woks and the scents mixed in the smoky ... read more
