Tijd om de hoofdstad van Bhutan te verlaten en richting de oude hoofdstad te rijden. Nog geen 15 minuten onderweg en we kwamen in één van de 10 nationale parken. In dit park ligt de pas waar we over moeten om naar Punakha te rijden. Op het hoogste punt van de pas ligt de Dochu La. Deze ligt op 3100m. Onderweg rijden we door de bergen. Overal waar je kan kijken een prachtig bos met watervalletjes en verschillende kleuren loofbomen en vele naaldbomen. Hier en daar zie je een huisje, maar dat is eerder niet dan wel. Onze gids vertelt ons over de parken. De 10 parken zijn allemaal met elkaar verbonden zodat de dieren overal heen kunnen. Dag 15: rijden! Vandaag vertrekken we om 8 uur in Pokhara en rijden we terug richting Kathmandu. De rit zou ongeveer 6 uur duren als het verkeer meezat. We reden heel vlot door, tot we in de buurt van Kathmandu waren. Tot daar is het namelijk maar 1 grote weg die je kan volgen. Toen we de helling voor Kathmandu op moesten, was er opeens een gigantische file. Ze waren de weg aan het maken en het was dus om beurten eenrichtingsverkeer. De 6 uur werden 8 uur en we kwamen dus pas tegen 16u in het hotel aan. Have you ever a picture postcard in person? I am sure a lot many of you have.I hope you remember the feeling when you landed on the postcard land for the first time. That was my feeling on 9th June 2019 when our Airbus 319 landed with a rather jolt on the small airfield of Paro, the only airport of the Kingdom of Bhutan. My first experience of Bhutan was the striking Silence of the place. As if by magic we have reached a land of silence. The Airport was very small and the immigration process was done very fast. I want to live in Bhutan, marry the king and have his chil ... well, maybe not that much but oh my goodness what a lovely country. We flew on Royal Bhutan Airlines, also known as Drukair. I thought that was a bit too close to Drugair or Drunkair for comfort but I later learned that a druk is a dragon, a wingless dragon I grant you and I would quite like my plane to have wings, but it flew us safely past Mt Everest again (is it that one?!), swerved around the mountains at the airport quite expertly, and got us safely on the ground despite that. The domain of Bhutan continues to be an unexploited jewel of the Himalayas. Since the kingdom was closed for foreign tourists till 1970, Bhutan has managed to preserve astonishing old-style Buddhist culture exceptionally combined with up-to-date sensibilities.
