18.04.2017 In the morning we went to Bhutan. There is separate entry for vehicles and passengers. We crossed the border walking and went to Immigration office. Now Bhutan govt. has made the visa bio metric. One has to give fingerprints and then they take photos and stamp the immigration form. No fee is charged for Indians. The process took long because the agents standing in the queue were having many forms and their visitors came late and were attended early. Even Veena World group was there. We did immigration and then went to same hotel of yesterday in Bhutan for breakfast. Packed lunch was also ordered. We came back walking in hotel at Jaigaon. We had already packed our bags and were ready for travel to Bhutan. There this small bus came (19 seats) which was ... read more

The only other people staying in the hotel were 4 rather posh sounding British birdwatchers who had only been there a couple of days. They did claim that they were not really committed twitchers, just interested when they went on holiday but they had a pair of very lovely Swarovski binoculars! They went out before breakfast the next morning but we had a leisurely one before Dendup arrived to take us for our final outing. This was going to be quite a challenge and I was not sure I could manage it after being ill and not eating that much for some days or doing much exercise but I was determined to give it a go. We spent a last couple of days in Delhi with a bit more success than our previous visit but we still managed to travel an hour to the red fort to find it closed for some kind of event and then to the largest mosque in Delhi to find it just closing for prayers. Rather frustrated with this area of Old Delhi we took a tuk-tuk back to New Delhi for lunch then walked to the National Museum which was fascinating but too large to cover properly in an afternoon. Our final day was unfortunately a Monday when most monuments and museums are closed so we decided to miss out on the chaos of travelling and catch up on some admin and have a nice lunch near the hotel. And so our alarms went off at ... read more

Saurav & I visited Bhutan in the year 2013(aug 13th - aug 16th). Our tour included stay & sight-seeing of Paro & Thimphu. We boarded our flight from Guwahati to Paro, and in a span of 50 mins, we were in paradise, that moment while landing, as our flight waded through the beautiful valleys and clear blue skies on a lone landing strip, we knew our trip was goin to be spectacular. We were greeted at the airport by our guide/driver, who accompained us for the rest of the stay. He was polite and courteous and was dressed in his traditional attire 'Gho'. We headed straight to Thimphu, the capital, which was about 1hr 30mins by road from Paro. The view of the landscapes, the lush green valleys and the gushing water of Thimphu river made ... read more

It was a long pending tour for the most vibrant telecom brand Banglalink’s Team Marketing! On 21st Nov 2014 we started our journey for Bhutan with Druk Air flight # KB 301 at 1200 and reached Paro, Bhutan at 1320 (local time). The flight in was beautiful – the snowcapped peaks of the Himalayas appear above the roof of clouds in to blue skies - an amazing sight to see if you are sitting on the left hand side of the plane. Some of those peaks are over 7300 meters! The plane itself flies into the narrow Paro valley, twisting quickly this way and that, and the pilot gets a resounding round of applause once we touchdown. Everyone seems to be grateful we made it! Sorry, should I not have taken that for granted?! Our guide ... read more

Lot many stories have been shared and told about the unspoiled beauty of Bhutan in the recent days, especially after our esteemed prime minister’s visit. But hundreds of stories cannot explain the magic that resides in Bhutan, it can only be experienced. Yes, not many of us, the so called urban travelers will have Bhutan as their bucket list destination and I must admit, neither me. My travel plan started in some stupid whim to get away and Bhutan plan came from nowhere. Somehow I was pulled towards it (they say its destiny!?). HOW IT BEGAN? “You will not regret this choice, Ma’am, don’t worry ” , answered my travel agent to my continuous nagging and anxious questions – will it rain heavy ? is it not monsoon? Only museums? No beach, no hangouts, will I ... read more

Day 8/9 An early start for us, we needed to be away for 8am so we headed to breakfast as we needed to eat something reasonable to give us the strength for the hike ahead. We both opted for porridge, and whilst a little watery, was ok. We set off along the same road we had travelled the previous day that took us towards the head of Paro valley, and turned off. In the distance, up the side of the mountainous cliff we could see the monastery perched there just waiting to be reached. As we approached the car par, there were a number of other tour buses already parked up, as well as locals with walking sticks that you could rent, not to mention the horses that you could hire if you thought the hike ... read more

Day 6/7 - Paro We had an early start, trying to get the timings of the pass opening right. The only way back to Paro is the way we came, over the Docha La pass and through the roadworks. After scrambled eggs for breakfast, and normal cornflakes with toast, we headed out towards the pass. We seemed to make good time, and hit the road works with only a 5 minute wait until they opened. As we approached the top of the pass, we spotted some monkeys, which we hadn't seen the day before. They seemed out of place somehow in Bhutan, and not really an animal you would associate with this type of country. Just before the top! there was another delay of 30minutes, but it really wasn't too bad. We got to listen to ... read more
