Hello again, Well fancy this, I have a day off! We really pushed the survey yesterday and finshed 9 km of magnetics readings and walked a total of 12 km! So as a reward we're taking it easy at the lodge today, I am currently sitting outside under a veranda watching the world go by and drinking a beer! (a Kilimanjaro, and yes, they are all largers) So we left the Sunshine De Motel on the 13th, leaving the relative luxury of mains electricity behind us in Kahama and headed NW to the small town of Katoro. We have set up [View Full Entry]

BIG SOCCER DAY

 Africa » Tanzania » North » Mwanza
Today was the distribution of the soccer equipment, and it went very well. First, though, Pastor Jon & Rob zoomed off on the motorbike to complete the study on Acts. Don't miss their picture when the study was finished. Very impressive, Pastor Jon! Sorry, maybe tomorrow, I'll be able to include this picture The soccer crew, Ron Leach, Jeremy, Jordan and Nate, had to be t their first appointment at 10:00am. The rest of us were going into town to do some shopping and have lunch. So, 10 adults piled into the Landcruiser with 3 bags of soccer gear on top. [View Full Entry]

Back in the Groove Now that campaign time is over, we have been trying to get back to our usual schedules. George has resumed his study in the village of Himo, where he has been studying with a small group of men. Plans are in the works for a two day seminar in Himo next month. This is a wonderful opportunity to preach the gospel in a place where, as far as we know, people have not heard the pure gospel preached. Luke and Lindsey are back to full days of school work. During the month of July, Julia and Lindsey, [View Full Entry]

A QUIET DAY

 Africa » Tanzania » North » Mwanza
Thursday has been a quiet day for us, but a very busy one for Ron and the boys. The mayor arrived about 10:00 am and looked at all the soccer gear we had and was mightily impressed. They were visiting some secondary schools and having a little fun with the school children and arrived home about 4:00 very hungry after no lunch. The three boys had actually left at 6:45 this morning to have the local doctor that is a friend of Rob's take them on his rounds at the hospital. Thank goodness, he didn't ask for their medical opinion on [View Full Entry]

Hello everyone. I'm at a random internet cafe in town, so I just wanted to let you all know some of my plans for the upcoming weeks, I'll be sending a picture or two back soon so hold your horses! This weekend we are going on a safari to Ngorongoro Crater from Friday until Sunday night. Most of the proceeds from our Safari money go to an organization called "kili kids", an orphanage in the area. They train some of the teen boys to be cooks for the tour operator, so they'll be in our group cooking for us which is [View Full Entry]

We got up yesterday and left the Guest House at 6:30 am to catch a 10:00 flight and needed about that much time to stand in wrong lines and get to the gate. However, there was no plane in sight so we waited until about 11:15 and took off. Nice plane and we went very close to Mt. Kilimanjaro. Jeremy, an intern for the summer, met us and negotiated a taxi for us out of the about 10 drivers fighting for his attention. There are now 17 of us counting the Howells, a very nice couple from MI and those of us [View Full Entry]

There are days when I just plain miss home. While I explain and you read, enjoy the pictures I have added for you. Many are Sew Be It success projects, others are us in our daily lives. What do I miss you ask? Well let me see. I miss sitting on the porch and being able to see as far as I can see without the hindrance of an 8 foot concrete wall. I miss street lights, sidewalks, and drivers who obey the traffic laws, and policemen. I miss being able to leave the house, get in the car to go [View Full Entry]

Orientation

 Africa » Tanzania » North
Hamjambo everybody! I'm using the computer in our homebase, and there is a line behind me so I'm going to type as much as I can remember very quickly! Today and yesterday were orientation days. Today we woke up and had to fill out about 1000 forms about why we are in Tanzania, and then the staff here put us into pairs and sent us into Karanga village with a "task". I was paired with a girl named Melanie, who actually is Australian but lives in Arusha with her husband. Our task was to walk into the village and find Shiramatunda [View Full Entry]

Jambo!

 Africa » Tanzania » North » Arusha
There is an amazing God that guides his children and provide them with more than what they ask. Yesterday, early afternoon, I wrote a few sentences about my first day in Dar es Salaam. Well, I did not know that my experience was about to change once I left the internet cafe. I was determined to find a cheap place to eat ($2.00 dollars) and according to my book, there was a take away near the internet cafe that I wanted to find. But the map and the streets around where not matching up, and I was getting a bit frustrated [View Full Entry]
