So after getting some much needed sleep - I seem to have sleep problems when traveling east - Jen and I woke up early for our big adventure day! (note to all...I've had three beers and am currently drinking a glass of wine...this blog might turn out to be the best ever) Today (Monday) was the adventure day to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. I was really excited about this. Probably more excited than anything else we planned to do. The mini bus picked us up at 8:45 am. We went with a group called Day Trippers and were with a great group of people from around the globe. Two girls from Ireland, one girl from Australia, a girl from Belgium with her man from France but they now both lived ... read more

9/14/08-9/15/08 I love bargain shopping. This is why Court and I were ready to wheel and deal at the Green Point Market, which is held each Sunday across the street from our guest house. Philip told us to haggle-- in fact, he told us to halve their asking price, then halve it again as a place to start, but that seemed extreme (we're new at this...) As we walked around the market, we got better at it, buying all sorts of gifts and mementos. In fact, we got so good at it that after a few hours of browsing and bargaining, we ran out of cash completely, even after avoiding the overly aggressive vendors! That night we ate at a grill where Court had warthog ribs and I had an ostrich fillet, and we both shared ... read more

Today we visited False Bay College which is and FET (Further Education and Training) College. FET Colleges were established to provide students with practical skills and training to prepare for the world of work. One program offered by the college is hospitality training which we witnessed first hand as we enjoyed a wonderful lunch prepared and served by the students as part of their program. In the afternoon we toured the coast. Our stops included a visit to the penguins who were so cute and memorizing we could have watched them all day. We then visited Cape Point which is where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. Given our time constraints, only a few of us made the mad dash to the top. We literally ran to the top in 10 minutes! But, the view was ... read more

I went on the Cape Point Peninsula tour today. What an amazing day, the weather ended up being beautiful and met some really nice people on the tour. The tour consisted of a drive down the peninsula from Cape Town to Cape Point where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet. Very scenic, convaluted drive. We stopped in Hout Bay where we got on a boat to Duiker Island - a seal colony. I'm not sure what impressed me more - the seals or the 7 meter swells our boat ended up surfing!! The next stop was to Simon's Town to watch the African penguins run around. Simon's Town is quite a beautiful place, lots of big beautiful houses on the beach. Just recently, (in the past 10 years I think) penguins started roosting on the beach ... read more

My last trip as cabin crew was a favourite of mine!!!! We had very little time but still managed to see some amazing things! We went on a tour to Cape Point (the most Southernly part of Sout Africa) and on the way we went on a little boat ride to a little island called Seal Island. The rock island is covered in hundreds of Seals!!!! It was amazing to see!! On the way to Cape Point we passed through very wealthy areas of Cape Town with stunning views and houses! Its winter in Africa but the weather was perfect! We also went through a town called Llandudno where Elton, Madonna and Simon Le Bon own houses, though it was funny as my Mum was born near there but the Welsh Llandudno!!!! Not so exotic although ... read more

The Cape - We’re here! Wednesday, June 25 After a serious 29 hour journey to Cape Town, we finally arrived. Customs wasn’t bad but exchanging cash for Rand seemed to take almost as long as our flight. Greeted by an “Ilios” travel agent, we made our way to the Cape Grace Hotel and were warmly welcomed by Tonya. She made some arrangements for us for our two day stay in Cape town, informed us that our room would be ready by 11AM, and requested we have some tea in the library. After a splendid crumpet, we made our way to Cape Grace room 311 where we were told that we were the first couple to stay in the room since renovated just the prior week. Wonderfully appointed with impeccable detail, we instantly fell into a ... read more

Where the Atlantic meetings the Indian - almost Thursday, June 26 Shaken out of a deep sleep by the ring of the front desk alerting us to the arrival of our tour company, we sprang into action to get ready for the day. The day before we had arranged a tour of the city from our airport driver and we now embarked on a trip to see the twelve apostles, Camps Bay, Cape Peninsula, Cape of Storms, Baboons, Ostrich farm, and the hot weathered Jackass Penguins. Our first stop was Camps Bay, where we would return later for a sundowner and dinner. Camps Bay is full of posh homes and along with Bentley Bay, resemble the Beverly Hills of Cape Town. Taking some pictures of Lion’s Head from the beautiful white beach in Camps Bay, ... read more

Ehrlich!

It was back to civilisation by tonight. We arrived in Cape Town and along the harbour front was a stream of lights. ...and in the morning there was the mountain and the table clothe as described by the steward, the clothe being mist being blown over from the sea. ...immigration for an entry visa. I got until 14th April. ...inbetween looking through the porthole, I read up on some pests. African pests: Tstse fly. Investigation into things that might follow me down the road. It can bite through thick material. I really don't want to be hounded down the road with Tstses. Pest 2: Ticks I've had 2 ticks before and they have a grip. So to safely remove them, tweezers around the snout so not to squeeze the creature, or it might inject something nasty, ... read more
