We have just returned from a long day out. Rusks and hot drinks were at 5.30 am so we could leave before 6.00 to be at the park by 7.00 when the animals are active. The children had no problem getting up early, and during the day we saw as much of the park as we had in several days before, with the help of a brilliant guide, Trust, who trains other guides. In fact it was a quiet day for sightings and we didn't see any lions 😞 or rhinos, but we did see hippos, giraffes, zebras, warthogs, buffaloes, wildebeest, a crocodile and many types of antelope and bird. We were held up on the way out by a complete traffic blockage caused by the sighting of a leopard, but we were unable to see it. The children listed many more small animals and took plenty of photos. We took a packed breakfast with us, which was consumed in one of the new picnic sites, and lunched in Skukuza, the biggest campsite.

Tonight we shall do our journals and play some games (it was charades last night) by the log fire, as it is quite cool here (how is it in England?) Tomorrow we are going up into the mountains for some spectacular scenery, shopping and pancakes!

Lucky you
So pleased that you saw a good range of animals. The early start must have been fun; I know Nia will have enjoyed that! Boiling hot here yesterday, but a little cooler today. Nat (and Sam) met Freddie Flintoff today at their cricket academy, so v happy. Nat also won best costume for the "country matches". He was in Pakistan, but had nothing green to wear. Sorry Nia we borrowed one of your vest tops and as they thought he was so "brave" to wear it he won the prize. He looked like a very dodgy Freddie Mercury (too old for most of you to remember). Counting down the days until your return. Nia your phone and Mac are both fully charged and ready for use. Enjoy the next few days. Love Mum/Sara xxx

Kruger Day
Wow - looks like you're all having a fantastic time in the Kruger National Park and what a lovely place to stay too - certainly wouldn't want a log fire here in the UK at the moment - very hot still and sunny! Can't believe you've been away for nearly two weeks - it seems such a long time ago that we waved you off at the airport. Looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday morning and catching up with all your news in person xxxx
