I'm aware that I'm about 6 weeks behind on my diary so the next couple of entries will be brief, considering I didn't do that much in the first place no ones missing much... So I had actually driven down the road and was now in a different country. Coming from an island this is weird. What do they do for borders? Put fences up every where? The first thing I noticed was how cold it was. The second thing I noticed was how much it was raining. We arrived in Windoek at 6 am. My initial plan was to go to get some sleep on a nice flat bed as the coach, while comfortable for a coach didn't make for a nice relaxing slumber. I took the free transport to the Cardboard Box and waited ... read more

On MOnday we went on this safari, it was better than I had ever dreamed a dusty desert country could be. On Monday morning we left with our guide and group (4 people plus guide) ina little minivan. None of those huge overland trucks for us, we chose the budget safari option. We drove to norhtern Namibia along a long long straight road. Temps went to over 40 degrees inside the van. Dust made its way into my mouth my ear my eyes my nose and places I won't even mention. We arrive in the first camp (the camps are completely fenced in for our protection from the lions, cheetahs, etc) and set up our tents and went on our first game drive on that first day we saw Kudu, baboon, warthogs (including the camp warthog) ... read more

Hellooo I am in this tiny Namibian village by the name of Rundu on the Angolan border. It is very very African. There are tons of cows walking around and the majority of the people in the surrounding areas live in mud and wood huts. It's really amazing, I mean I lived in SA for most of my life and I have never seen anything quite like this. I feel like I am seeing 'Africa' in a whole new light. We actually had a sunset cruise last night with a few beers and made an illegal border crossing into Angola. CRAZY, to think that I have now been to Angola. I never imagined going to that country, ever. Let me see, this is going to be a bit of a list of things that I have ... read more

Life in Windhoek is strange. We've beenhere for 3 days and have yet to find anything to do. Not from lack of trying. The hostel we are staying at is nice, clean, provides breakfast, pool, etc. We are camping for $40 Namibian dollars each per night, which isn't bad. Tomorrow we will go on a safari. It sounds super cheesy, it may actually be super cheesy, but we will get to see the lions tigers and bears.....oh my, that we can't see other wise. We leave on monday and will return on wednesday. We'll spend thursday relaxing and then head off to victoria fall on friday. Speaking of bears. Paul has grown a beard, I can't wait till we find a fast internet connection so I can down load more pictures, I like it. We went ... read more

How ridiculous is that!! It was crazy. So wild. I loved it. I free fell for 35 seconds at 220 km/hr, or 120 miles an hour and then spent about 6 mins in the parachute. It was marvelous. We took off in this tiny plane and did a 25 minute scenic tour around the dunes and coast and when we got to 10 000 feet I put my feet on the wheel outside the plane and thought to myself "what the f**k am I doing?!" I told my tandem master that I wanted him to spice it up a bit so we did a bunch of summer saults right out of the plane, wicked. And then I got to control the parachute as well, it s awesome when you pull hard on one side you go ... read more

Eating some Damascus nougat in a Swapkopmund, Namibia internet cafe right now. God I love nougat! Namibia is alright too. EXCEPT that it is 50 degrees in the shade and there ain't no shade man! No I was exaggerating it only got up to 46 degrees Celsius which for those slow Americans out there is about 114 degrees F. Bloody hot, but truthfully it is bearable due to the fact that there is absolutely no humidity out there. The night before we came over the border we spent the night at this fantastic camp site called the Fiddlers Creek on the Orange river. I made my first ever illegal border crossing in the evening by swimming over the border and into Namibia, rather exhilarating. Was only shot at twice, lekker. That night we had a massive ... read more

Where do I even begin....Basically Lloyd and I signed up for this trip not really knowing what we were getting ourselves into. Capetown to Vic falls, amazing. Little did we know that there's about 5000 km between these two destinations...Approximately 3000 miles... Our first two days were spent driving in our overland vehicle and slowly getting to know everyone on our trip. 7 Dutch, 3 Germans, 3 Americans, 2 Swiss, 1 Canadian, 1 South African, 1 Belgium. As usual the group is amazing and I'm really looking forward to getting to know all these people. Our Second night our Guide, Quinton decided to make us a batch of his "Punch." Lloyd and I definitely indulged but were asleep by 12am because there's really nowhere to go in the desert. I woke up at 2am and noticed ... read more

Dimanche 13 novembre. ... read more
