I was so excited On MOnday we went on this safari, it was better than I had ever dreamed a dusty desert country could be.
On Monday morning we left with our guide and group (4 people plus guide) ina little minivan. None of those huge overland trucks for us, we chose the budget safari option. We drove to norhtern Namibia along a long long straight road. Temps went to over 40 degrees inside the van. Dust made its way into my mouth my ear my eyes my nose and places I won't even mention.
We arrive in the first camp (the camps are completely fenced in for our protection from the lions, cheetahs, etc) and set up our tents and went on our first game drive on that first day we saw Kudu, baboon, warthogs (including the camp warthog) giraffe, springbok, vultures, so many birds (my beloved paulo has become a birder in the last week or so), black faced impala, zebra, wildebeast, jackel, oryx and many more. One of the greatest highlights of the safari happend on the first day. Etosha nation park is more tha 22,000 sq km and it includwes salt desert, small hills, low bush, forests, etc. its

camp warthog from the first camp huge all the roads are dirt roads.
anyway back to what I thought was so cool. We were heading back to camp for dinner when we came to a look out over the salt pan... we saw no less than 16 giraffes crossing the salt pan. They don't go two by two like the arc, they walk single file so it was quite the parade.
The next morning we went on an early morning game drive6-8 am then back for breakfast and then pack up and game drive all the way to the next camp. That morning we saw so many animals and theyir young. It is the rainy season here in Namibia, you wouldn't be abel to tell though its a bloody desert. The Animals in etosha have their young about 3 weeks ago so we saw tons of baby zebra, giraffe elephants rhino, even foxes and ostriches. It was beautiful.
We stopped for lunch at a camp which had a swimming pool, so we all went for a dip washed the dust off, cooled down. After lunch we headed for the next camp where we were to stay the night and this camp has a
Giraffe
The first few flood lit water hole known b/c the black horned rhino's come there to drink.
After we set up camp we went down to the water hole (not more than 5 mins from the tents) to watch, the sunset, I remembered that we must use the bug repleant here b/c its malaria territory, so I left the group to go get the bug spray and a tripod and a lense and a shirt for my fellow safarites, and by the time I returned there were 3 elephants within 40 feet, a heard of zebras, and two giraffes all drinking and playing in the water. After dinner we returned to see Rhino;s jackels (eating the dead giraffe carcass)
We drove home the next morning, 7 hours or so along the hot long straight road, we slept most of the way. Back in Windhoek untill tomorrow evening when we take a 24 hour bus to Victoria falls.
I'll send pictures eventually. It takes a long time to download them with a dialup connection.

Wow! Fantastic!
That is soooo cool Lucienne. All those sights! I hear that you are not supposed to put any part of your body in Victoria Falls due to parasites. Nevertheless, it will be spectacular. Miss you tons. Merry Christmas. Mom
