Welcome Back!
Your trip sounded like quite the adventure. I am quite jealous, but I don't think it is something Melanie and I would survive given more propensity to get hurt. Welcome back and it'll good to see you again.

Oh no...the shoes
You didn't dump the shoes !!!!! What a phenomenal experience, guys; you can tell us Africans all about our own continent. You hold the knowledge and experience - well done to you both on something you'll take to the grave. Fantastic...........tres, tres bien! The Batsin Jozi

Like everything there will be its ups and downs, life is always full suprises. I can only imagine that the peoples mindset there is very different from the one that we are use to here in vancouver. But you have been on this great adventure now for how many months, where do you still plan to go before you are all finished? p.s. I love seing these pictures in your blog!

Cairo then I take berlin
What's next Berlin! I can't wait to see your pictures of Cairo I think that city would be somewhat amazing. Better than the jerky captain of the nile. Keep up the sunny side of life. Yeah. Ciao.

The blogs were great
Lucienne and Paul (Happy Birthday, one, no doubt, you will remember forever). the blogs have been so interesting, almost as if we were there sharing your adventure, as many of us will not be able to take such a trip. The differences in culture, ways of life, and the way women are treated in some countries, are so real when linked to your experiences. It must be worth it though, to see the mystique and grandeur of all those ancient places. Tavelling afar does make you appreciate better the place in which you live, Hard to believe you'll be flying west soon. Enjoy your last days, safe journey, and happy Easter. Shelagh and Tim

ranting is healthy
with just one rant one can can release some can't and just like a chant it'll squeeze and decant the cause of the rant and perhaps grant some time to find a slant that feels better. thanks for the inspiration, kid. Looking forward to the pix and checkin' out your tan. Dad

Seamy side
I hope the good moments out weigh the bad. I am not sure if you threw the captain overboard it would have been much of a loss. I suppose another member of the crew could have steered the ship. Yep, I think he should have walked the blank but I don't think there are many sharks in the nile? Pity. Cheers

Rant away my dear! I can see that you are ready to come home and at that stage, little things become irksome, let alone a fellow passenger getting raped! Maybe you all should have ganged up on him and beat him to only an inch of his life. Save enough for the driving the boat and the Pallbearers. I shall see you in a week and one day. I hope I will not keep you waiting at the airport too long. Can't wait to see you.

good point
I havent written in my blog much int helast three weeks because i havent hadanything nice of particulalry intresting to talk about.... Ill gotten to that though because I havent had much time. School is very diffrent here and VERY frustrating at times. Laerning a diffrent language is harder than it looks.

Disasters aside - how fantastic to explore Egypt
Although the going has been rough the last few days how fortuate you both were to be able to explore all the places you have in Egypt. Enjoy Luxor - hope you are able to explore both banks. Paul have a wonderful birthday on the 6th - make this day very special. love Mom

well, if anything you know better what to, and not to do.. next time, not that river tour company. :) Massive monuments, I can only imagine, what it would be like to stand in their presence.. personally, the standing on the lions gate occationally inspires moments of complete awe, this an other bridges tend to be my only other point of comparison, which i dont think could really compaire at all. Anyways, heh, for what its worth, take pictures of everything, try to take it all in, stay safe, when you look back on it, more than likely every frustration, every massive hellishness, might be remembered at the very least as an amusing story and to be relived only as such :p Best wishes to both of you! -wayne

Sunny
To quote (or misquote) from a Monty Python film "always look on the sunny side life..." Of course it's little hard to find the sunny side when you find yourself in a very tough spot. Cheers

Sea shell
So you are darned close to the Red Sea and The Mediterranian one too so perhaps some sea gulls came in on camel or during the great polar melt a kazillion years ago, the oasis you found yourself upon was underwater!!! Great stories. I read them outloud to Lea and sometimes I get stuck on certain African town names and/or your peculiar spelling prowess but nontheless, I truly enjoy the saga. Keep it coming. Dad

sand dune boarding
The sand dunes look pretty adventuresome. Are you on a board like in watersport. The sandunes on the Oregeon coast are pretty fun as you run and do flips down the hills. Much different these sand dunes seem to go on for miles in the desert. This part of your trip must be somewhat as a let down from all your safari trips and sights? Oui/Non?

I'm Speechless
Lucienne, I'm speechless, which is to say for me, somewhat without words. I am in awe of the pics you've taken and posted, I can't think of what to say, except I would love to be looking through your eyes when you took them. Everything just screams history, yet it's SO alive! Your descriptions of where you've been, what you saw and felt, just enthrall me. I am constantly amazed by this Grand Adventure of yours, and so thrilled to have you share it all with us back home. You are very perceptive, Lucienne, to the cultures, people, places, and sensations around you. Perhaps this is what has kept you safe so far? Keep perceiving! ....................love always, Mamie

I love those pictures that you started to add into your journals, it is just amazing to think that humans could have lived there so many years ago. It is so dry and desolate looking.
