I just realized that I never post the fun stuff nor the juicy gossip.... Something I'm sure you all would like to read about! My first night really out in Windhoek, my 1 fun night out in Gaborone Botswana, nights out in Swakop, our fears of polio, drama, giggling away about nothing, etc. I will maybe have some time this weekend... keep checkin.... =) ... read more

Wow what a week! After an extremely stressful week in Francistown, I came back to a much more pleasant Windhoek, but with the project in full motion, though not moving as fast as we like it to. Mel and Y arrived on Thursday to finish up Botswana and then lend a helping hand to Namibia. C left yesterday for Swaziland with our client to try to open that country so E will be finishing up Windhoek this week hopefully with Y. I am on my way to Walvis Bay, a city, as you might have guessed, on the coast. I don’t believe it’s nearly as interesting as Swakopmund, but hey, I’m here for work not play. Mel should be joining me sometime this week and we are supposed to try to wrap it all up by ... read more

even before the first rays of light begin to emerge, a friendly and sing songy "good morning" seeps in from somewhere outside the canvas walls of my tent, penetrating the cool blackness and confirming to me, in my sleepy haze, that the time has come to fully awake. using the light of my head-torch, i pull on a few layers of "safari" clothing and rummage around for the spot that i strategically laid my toothbrush and face soap...always a morning scavenger hunt, no matter how prepared i attempted to be the evening before. after a quick trip to the facilities and a blissful cup of hot, steaming coffee, i pull myself up into the open top safari jeep and slide onto one of the bench seats, joining the rest in our group. we are all still ... read more

Yes yes, a member of my team thinks he saw Brad here in Windhoek... hehe... Anyway this country is great! It's beautiful, hardly no malaria, you can drink the tap water, food is decent. And the weather is awesome. Here are a few pics for fun... no no NOT of Angelina or Brad... just a few Windhoek pics... not the best, but it's a start!... read more

Hi everyone First update in a while as we having been on our tour, and this is the first time we've got to a net cafe, what with being on the Dark Continent. So much to say, but I won't bore you too much I hope. We are on an overland truck trip, with 5 other passengers & 3 crew and we have travelled up from Cape Town to our current location on the west coast of Namibia, right on the Atlantic coast, here in the delightfully named Swakopmund, which is almost a totally German town! Very weird, but my A Level German has come in handy, trying to decipher menus, thus avoiding ordering the Ostrich Burger by mistake. The people on our trip are great - plenty of characters. First is Carla, Portuguese but as ... read more

Halloooooo Ik ben en Windhoek!! And I will have to work my Africaans... because it's even more used than English here! I arrived yesterday. My trip was of course very long but no mishaps, so can't complain too much! We're staying in a guesthouse right now which is nice, clean and cheap, but we need to find a place closer to the city and where we can work from (we have no Internet in our rooms right now... I'm in a Internet cafe right now...). Anyway I still haven't figured out what to think of the city; it's NOTHING like any of the African cities I've seen so far. I'll be posting maybe in a day or two, with photos if I can hook my laptop up to the Internet. Beste, Hanneke p.s. Have a safe ... read more

Well, I realize it might have been awhile since my last blog update, and I wasn't entirely clear on where I was going next so hopefully this entry will clear things up. Ryan and I decided to head north into the country of Namibia. This took quite some time to decide because there was a lot in South Africa to see (the whole country really). I guess I look back to the conversation I had with that guy in Punta Arenas who had spent a few years in Cape Town when he told us that at this age we should really go visit more exciting countries than South Africa. I think he was right because as great as Cape Town was, everything was really expensive and touristy so much that it was almost impossible to make ... read more
