Today we had a swim in the lovely big pool. Then we went and hired a quad bike. We were shown on to the beach and then Daddy rode along a bit. Then it was my turn! I went over some sandhills onto the next beach. We nearly got stuck in the deep loose sand, and then the chain came off but we managed to fix it! Daddy's hat blew away so we went back for it. After another swim we drove down the coast to Safi. We found the football had already begun and Safi were losing 1-0. Once we were cheering them on they scored two goals and won 2-1. The crowd went rather berserk and ran all over town chanting and cheering. Then we went to a kebab place for dinner of beef ... read more

This morning we headed to the mosque for the tour of the building - there are no tours on fridays because it is the holy day. The guide showed us the prayer hall which had huge pillars and chandeliers from Venice. Downstairs we saw the washing rooms. Then we drove to El Jadida where we walked along the beach and then saw the cisterns in the old city. Then we drove along the coast to Oualidia where we are staying in a lovely house and there is a huge pool.... read more

For spring break this year, I decided to be adventurous and go on an all-inclusive Moroccan excursion with two of my girl friends in my program, Brittany and Carli. Brittany’s friend from Colorado did this exact same excursion one year ago when she was studying abroad in Spain, and she said it was an absolute must, so we checked it out online and decided to go for it! We went through a company based in Sevilla called Discover Sevilla. They put on trips all throughout southern Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. The company is run by two guys, David and Eric. David is from Sevilla, but we did not get to meet him because he didn’t come on this trip with us. Eric is from the U.S. and has lived and worked in Sevilla for many years. ... read more

This morning we got a taxi to the Cathedral. It is not being used any more, but it has lovely stained glass windows. We climbed up the tower which was full of pigeon poo. At the top we could see the sea and the whole of the city. Then we walked through the gardens and round the art deco part of the city. We saw the market which was full of fish, oysters, fruit, veges and dates. Then we had chicken + chips for lunch. In the afternoon we went to the beach but it got cooler and windy. I have the hiccups.... read more

We got up at 4am and drove to Luton airport. We flew to Madrid and waited 3 hours for our flight to Casablanca. We arrived at 3.45 and got on a train to the city. On the train we met a man who used to play football in the Moroccan top league, and then the 2nd division in Finland. He was very friendly. When we got off the train we caught a taxi to our apartment which has a great view of the Hassan II mosque and the Atlantic. I slept very well.... read more

It had been almost an entire month since I had returned home from a year of frolicking. In my book that spells time for a much-needed, well-deserved holiday. I had no pre-conceptions on where I wanted to go, so I decided the next best thing would be to turn up at the airport and jump on a plane to somewhere or anywhere. Firstly, it’s quite difficult packing for an unknown destination, so I packed light and figured I would buy anything extra I might need on arrival. I logged off at work, got changed in the office and headed for Heathrow. The first ticket desk I tried was Virgin Atlantic. Hoping to pick up a “standby” ticket, my bubble of optimism was burst when they informed me that the procedure was to purchase a ticket to ... read more

March 17, 2008 Today started off much earlier than normal. We woke up for good at 4:45 so we could go watch the sun rise. As much as it wasn’t fun to get up so early, I was soo happy when it finally came, because I went from one of the best night’s sleep to the worst in a day. The mattress was very uncomfortable, the pillows were hard, we had to share a blanket and sheet, and it was FREEZING! Even with my jeans, 2 pairs of socks, cami, tank top, long sleeve shirt, and sweatshirt (over my head, too) I was soooo COLD! I would wake up every couple hours trying to get warm and comfortable, but I never really succeeded. When we went outside to go, you could see every star in the ... read more

March 15, 2008 After waking up this morning, we ate breakfast at the hotel. They had a lot of pastries and fresh orange juice. They were very good! We had a change of plans, and stayed in Fès for awhile. We went to the Royal Palace to see the walls outside, the gardens, and the guards. We drove a little more to a market area called la medina de Fès. There were a lot of little streets with people walking around selling things or at their stores. It is so different than anything I have seen before. It shows how lucky we are in the US. Our local tour guide took us to three unique and very cool stores. The first place was a rug store. It used to be a mansion, and now women make ... read more
