Glowing Tokyo Tower
Twilight Setting
I didn't know Tokyo Tower turns on lights at night! Day 18: Roppongi 6:00am: I woke up, called Jon, showered, got ready, and ate breakfast (usual: slice of bread with cream cheese, salad, and potato salad)
7:30am: I left to go to Yotsuya station. Today's orientation starts at 9:00am.
9:00am: After doing all my transfers and making it to Yotsuya, I listen to Michelene's review of the CIEE schedule/calendar and her answers to our questions.
10:15am: Dr. Slater talks about the differences in the culture of growing up in Japan and America. Japan makes it clear that we are all dependent. America has a "false" impression that we're independent. Lots of students argued with him. I got irritated because I just wanted to get this lecture over with. We watched a video of how a Japanese preschool teacher dealt things. It's very different from my preschool when I was little in Chicago.
12:00pm: So because of all the arguing, lecture lasted an extra 30 minutes. Eileen, JT, and I plan to meet up at Roppongi at 7pm.
2:00pm: JT and I went to Shinjuku and ate this really delicious egg, rice, bean lunch. SO DELICIOUS!
4:00pm: I went home to take a nap and
JT's Coin Bag
Generalization:
American's don't like to carry large amounts of cash. Coins are worse. We like to carry a card because it's convenient.
Japan is a VERY cash country.
Result: Frustrating!! tell my host mom that I won't be coming for dinner. I found out that my host dad is also not coming home for dinner. He is going to eat dinner with his boss.
6:00pm: I left to go to Roppongi. There was many transfers that I needed to do but it was easy.
7:00pm: I met up with Eileen and Kyle at Exit 3. JT decided to take a cab...but there was traffic on the street, so he will be late. Eileen, Kyle, and I decided to walk around Roppongi.
8:00pm: Eileen, Kyle, and I went back to the station to pick up JT. We took the cab (about 1000 Yen total) to Shibuya and ate at a sushi restaurant. The restaurant had the sushi ride on this belt to go around the place...like Sushi Station near Chicago. It was good.
10:00pm: We took the cab back to Roppongi to go to this place called Muze? We played this Dart game. I teamed up with Kyle. Eileen and JT was another team. Eileen and JT kept winning! The game was fun. By the way, Japan's drinking age is 20.
11:00pm: We walked around and
around Roppongi and ate at a ramen restaurant. The ramen was SO GOOD! I didn't order, but my friends shared with me. 😊
12:00am: I find out my train to Zoshiki had already stopped for the night. I txted my host mom to tell her I will stay at Eileen's host house for the night. She's so nice to me! Jon called me a couple of times.
1:00am: We made it to Eileen's host house and asked if it was okay for me to stay. Her host mom said that was okay and worried about a futon. We said I can share with Eileen. Eileen let me borrow a contact case and gave me a toothbrush. We went to sleep.
Times are approximate Please send me your address, if you want a postcard.

Nice Entries
Hey Raining Blue Star - I just want to say that I enjoy reading your posts about your life in Japan. The pictures and videos are great (they are very vivid!). Thanks for sharing. They remind me the time when I visited Japan like 4 years ago. Anyway, keep it up and have fun in JP! =) Gary
