Have you ever wanted to do something spontaneous? One evening, I packed my bags. I looked online for any last minute airplane flights. I took a taxi to O'Hare airport. And I flew to Pheonix, Arizona. I did not have a plan at all. It was 2:00am when I was at O'Hare airport. I was upgraded to first class and went to sleep on the airplane. At 7:00am, I woke up in Pheonix, Arizona, rented a car, and drove 2 hours to Tucson, Arizona. Then, I met a friend at the air force base, climbed Mountain A, and felt the 90 degree weather blazing my face. Then, the next day, I climbed Tucson Mountains. By 2pm, I flew back to Chicago. It was an epic day of travel.... read more

For those who are wondering... "What happened?" "Did Hiromi die?" "Where is she now?" Actually....I have been living in Chicago ever since I came back from my adventures. It was hard adjusting back to my "normal" living style. I even tried "living on my own" and that didn't work out, so I went back to living with my parents. I apologize for never finishing my blogs from my Japan and Philippines trip. Hopefully, when I graduate again from the Masters program and obtain my CPA, I will be able to upload pictures and videos of my travels from that time. Luckily, I still have the records, photos, and videos. They may not be in explicit details, but hopefully, they will provide some insight. I truly wished I finished publishing my experiences... if I could turn back ... read more

I delayed posting because school, work, friends and family's messages, and host family makes managing my time very difficult. In fact, I am STILL struggling. I will post my days soon. I'm really sorry for the long delay... Sincerely, Hiromi... read more

Day 82: I GOT THE JOB! Wednesday, June 3, 2009 6:30am: I woke up, exercised, got ready, and ate breakfast. I forgot to say...but I do morning exercises for 15 minutes. It makes me feel better about myself, even though people always mention that my muscles are already toned enough. I just do it because it feels good. 100 crunches, now 15 push-ups, which I'm trying to increase the amount, splits, back exercise, and another stretch exercise. The exercises help me endure long stairs and dashing to my classes. 8:05am: I left my house. 9:15am: I was in the Japanese class, where we learned ーそう、ほうし、-てほうし. These are things that are easily learned by listening to people. Half the class wasn't in class. 11:00am: We reviewed yesterday's kanji, watched a video of how to invite people, and ... read more

Day 81: Chicago Friend in Japan! Tuesday, June 2, 2009 6:30am: I woke up, took shower, got ready, studied for my human resource midterm, and ate breakfast. I wore a long black skirt and white blouse for my interview today. Jon called me but I was in such a hurry because I was studying for my midterm. Jon foolishly jokes at me about how much "fun" or "playing" I've been doing. I HATE it when someone says I am playing when I am studying SO HARD. I don't have time to joke around! I probably hurted his feelings, but he really irritated me! No ONE is allowed to tell me that I am having "too" much fun. I AM A BUSY PERSON! And I STUDY A LOT! 8:05am: I left for school. 9:15am: I made it ... read more

Day 80: Intense Test & Skit Monday, June 1, 2009 6:30am: I woke up, took a shower, got ready, and studied for my Japanese grammer test for today. 8:00am: I left to go to school early, so I can print out my skit. 9:00am: I made it to Yotsuya and printed out my skits and an accounting firm map. 9:15am: Japanese class began with the test. I didn't know much of the words, so my studying went to waste. I knew the grammer but I didn't know the meaning of the words. So, I just went by gut feeling and from pure memory of what happened in my previous classes. 10:30am: I finished and practiced my skit with William, my partner this time. We didn't really practice last night, so my memorization of the lines were ... read more

Day 79: Writing my Blogs Sunday, May 31, 2009 7:00am: I went to sleep. 12:00pm: I woke up. I went straight to my computer to write out my blogs. I haven’t updated for 10 days. 5:00pm: I am still writing this blog. The internet is quite slow, so that’s irritating that I can’t publish my blogs yet. I decide to go upstairs. 5:30pm: I go with my host family to eat dinner with Manami’s mom and dad. They are such nice people! We go to a mall, where I buy clothes. Manami’s and Daiki’s age is close to mine, so they know about fashion for 20 year olds. I found it funny that my fashion seemed “old-fashioned” to them. I see it in their faces and they can tell I don’t really know how to dress ... read more

Day 78: Rest Day Saturday, May 30, 2009 2:00am: Jon wakes me up and he sounded mad again or annoyed? I didn’t know because I was so sleepy. Then, I realized that he wasn’t on the phone anymore. I was confused, so I went back to sleep. 12:00pm: Jon wakes me up with a phone call. He tells me to call him back. I went back to sleep. 12:30pm: I woke up. I ate the food that Manami made for me on the table. Manami and Yuzuki were taking their noon nap. 1:00pm: I called Jon. He said to call him back when he is at the computer. I told him that I will call Aimee first. 1:30pm: I hang up and call Aimee. Maybe she is busy… because she didn’t pick up. 2:00pm: Jon and ... read more

Day 77: LARGE GROUP Karaoke Friday, May 29, 2009 6:00am: I woke up to write out my note cards and write half of the skit that I need to perform for Monday. Then, I got ready and ate breakfast. 8:00am: I left. 9:15am: Class started with a kanji quiz. Then, we listened to some Japanese conversations. I had nearly no idea what was being said. I’m not very good at listening to directions of the road. 11:00am: We reviewed all the kanji that we learned so far. Then, we listened to more Japanese conversations and practiced how to describe directions. 12:30pm: I buy Candy a Milk Tea drink, as she went to get Stefan’s birthday cake. I ate at GL-Net and talked to a few Japanese girls. Their major so happen to all be German, which ... read more

Day 76: Toshiyuki, Absolutely Impressive Thursday, May 28, 2009 5:00am: I woke up to finish my homework and to write out note cards. Then, I ate breakfast and got ready for school. 8:00am: I left for school. 9:15am: Class began with a kanji quiz. Then, we learned about の/こと(nominalizer) and more noun modifications. 11:00am: We learned new kanji, 結ぶ、婚、離れる、席、欠ける、予、定、洋、式、和、活. Then, we learned more about describing our location and giving directions. 12:30pm: Class ended. I eat lunch with my classmates at the cafeteria. Candy and I finally get to hang out together! We and other classmates went to the computer lab to do homework. I finished my homework. 5:00pm: Candy and I went to Shibuya to meet my new friend, Toshiyuki, from the club last Friday. He’s been studying English for 5 days and impressively improved! He ... read more
