The main entrance
... to the hospital. English I am still in hospital, it is week no. four now. Last Thursday, I received pretty frustrating news. The doctors told me that I would not be allowed to put weight onto my pelvis for 16 weeks, so almost 13 more weeks from now. The fracture in my pelvis is sort of transverse, and they fear that all that they have fixed nicely might move out of place again if I start weightbearing too soon. It takes bones four months to heal completely, so they want it all to be nice and stable before I start walking. I really was frustrated after receiving the news. I thought I would be on crutches soon. So there are a lot of plans that I will have to change. My health insurance is currently organizing my flight back home as I can't fly home on my normal ticket, and they are also organizing my rehabilitation when I get back home.
In my last story, I had written that the physiotherapist had given me a workout for my muscles. I would normally laugh about the exercises she had given me because they are really easy if you are not crippled. But you
My bed
... close to a big window through which I can see the nice cu's every day. would not believe how much muscle power you loose when lying in bed for three weeks. The exercises were painful and cost me a lot of effort. But I did them every day, and I got better from day to day. I am also allowed to use the hometrainer, without any resistance because that would put weight on my pelvis. On my first day on the hometrainer, I thought: Okay, you haven't done much while being here in hospital, start off with something easy and do 15 minutes. Believe me or not, I was completely exhausted after ten. So I decided to slowly increase that, by two minutes every day. And I have a little training program that I do every morning before breakfast, and I also do some laps around the hospital every day get fitter.
My birthday yesterday was pretty nice, although I am still in hospital. Adriaan came in the morning and brought me a lovely chocolate cake, made of Belgian chocolate, that had Happy Birthday Katharina written on it. My cooperation partner cut-e in Hamburg had sent me a most beautiful bunch of flowers. During the day, I had some visitors: Donny came in the
View from my window
From the window next to my bed, I can see trees and the sky. I'd love to be out there... morning, then Conrad, then Dustin, and in the afternoon, Camo and Wazza arrived. Wazza had brought German beer, so we sat in my room in the hospital drinking beer, with the nurses walking in and out of the room. Later on, Monica joined us, and she gave me a very nice necklace. And my Mum had given me two wooden little angels that are supposed to protect me in the future.
Even better, I finally got out of hospital for a couple of hours, after four weeks! First, I went to Monica and Scott's place with the two occupational therapists for a home visit. We wanted to see whether I would get along in their house with the wheelchair, whether I could go in and out, go to the toilet and have a shower, and reach everything that I need to reach. And it did work out. That means that I'll be allowed to leave the hospital tomorrow to stay with Monica and Scott for the rest of my time here in Australia. Yesterday in the evening, I got out of hospital for a second time. Camo took me to the monthly meeting of the Newcastle Hanggliding Club. It
The internet cafe
I spend quite some time in this internet cafe every day, to answer all the lovely messages I get. was great to have some non-hospital food and meet all the people there. I'm really sort of getting back to normal!
Thank you so much to all my lovely friends!

Outside the hospital
