At our first walk in the Everglades - Eco Pond.
Greetings from the Everglades or it Homestead?

We arrived in the late afternoon and headed to explore the HUGE Walmart. It was massive, bigger than Tesco in Bratislava which had been the biggest supermarket seen to date. It had everything including McDonalds, tax consultants and eye testing consultations. In the actual store itself it was a bit like a Kmart, Coles, and Bunnings all together. You get the picture, we weren’t there for the Walmart.

Our Everglades experience started with a visit to the Visitor Centre and we were off south towards to the Flamingo. We decided to hire a canoe to row into the back country and on to Cotty Bay Pond. It took about an hour and a half to get down, as it was very choppy we decided to turn around and get back. We have lost the wind so it was going to take longer. It was hard work but very much worth it. We saw loads of wildlife including bird, fish and alligators. VERY COOL.

After our little canoe ride we made the long drive back the entrance of the park. We made sure we stopped at every boardwalk along the way to

see more wildlife and take some great photos. The last trail of the day was to be Anhinga Trail. If you wanted to see heaps of alligators, it was the place to go. It certainly didn’t leave you disappointed, the only disappointing thing was our bigger camera’s battery died, just as we walked over a pit of alligators. So as we are now the proud owners of a National Parks Pass (that gives us free entry into all National Parks) we headed back the next day to take even MORE photos. We arrived at Anhinga Trail first thing in the morning and saw even more alligators including 24 in one spot. All the animals were even more active which meant we had a great morning.

We then drove to the northern entrance of the Everglades called Shark Valley to have another look and maybe hire a bike. As it was the weekend all the bikes had been hired so we went for another walk. There weren't as many alligators around so started the long drive to Texas.

The Everglades are fantastic. Highly recommended to everyone. And I hope all the photos give you an idea on how much
