Whitehaven Beach
Best beach ever? The Whitsunday Islands are renowned for their beautiful beaches and have been described as THE best in the world so of course we couldn't pass up the East Coast without taking a trip to see for ourselves. There are hundreds of sailing, diving and snorkelling trips on offer. We opted for a one day trip on a powered boat as this was faster than sailing, allowing us to see more. I am not such a great sailer so didn't really fancy any of the longer, overnight trips. I think this was a good choice. It took us 90mins to get out to Whitsunday Island where we looked onto various beaches before visiting Whithaven beach, perhaps one of the most famous in this area. It was indeed beautiful with white sand and turquoise sea. What did look slightly un-paradise like was everyone dressed head to toe in black lycra AKA stinger suit. Jellyfish start to become a real problem as you reach the tropics but the stinger suit offers reasonable protection. Black lycra catsuit cut to the waiste swim we had lunch on the boat before cruising on to Mantaray bay. Here we had the option to dive or snorkel. I chose to snorkel which was really fantastic. There were so many types of fish! So many colours and sizes and the coral was lovely too. I expected to snorkel in Cairns so this extra trip was great. I hope I get to go again as it was quite overwhelming and hard to register everything. I have also bought an underwater camera to try and capture some of the fish next time.

Sounds fab, glad you got to Whitehaven beach. Don't remember any lycra people when we were there, maybe coz different time of year. Beach was just totally empty. Yeah the snorkelling is great isn't it. We're about to go at Koh Phi Phi where has always been beautiful and full of amazing fish before. Just at airport waiting for our flight now!
