Prices in Nice.

Hi!

I'm thinking of going in July(21-24)on a Northern Italy-French Riviera circuit which among others, includes 4 nights in Nice(1 day trip to Monaco, 1 day trip to Cannes, St Tropez and Grasse, 1 free day in Nice). Accommodation and breakfast are included, so I was wondering maybe someone could tell me where to eat on a budget, or to buy food...Are fruits cheaper at the market than in the supermarket? How much would a kilo of bananas or oranges be? or a bottle of water? anything that you think should know would be greatly appreciated.

I read about nice haircuts being done at Salon Identity, does anyone know how much is a haircut?

How much can fees at entrances to museums or other attractions range from?

I'm trying to figure out how much money would be ok for a 3 days-4 nights.

Thank you very much in advance.:-) Reply to this

Dear Mystic,It has been three years since I was in provence so any prices I could give you would be outdated especially now that the Euro is kicking the dollar in George Washington's teeth! Nice is more budget friendly than Cannes,St.Tropez and especially Monaco. Fruits and Veggies seemed a little pricey in the Supermarche and better prices and quality were found in the local weekly markets. The best deals on food in France is on (go figure) Wine ,cheese and Bread. If you have a way to get around there is a little place about 12 kilometers from Nice called Eze Village it sits on the cliffs over looking the Med, positively beautiful views and next to the church is a Jardin Exotique with every kind of cactus you can think of and some beautiful statues. When you are in Grasse you might check out the Mollinard & Mollinard perfume factory, tours are free and last about an hour. If you park in their parking lot (parking is free) make sure they aren't closed for lunch because you can't get out unless you have a token to open the gate! Prices in general were better on the Italian side of the border in San Elmo and Bordegellia but again this was several years ago. Enjoy I know you are going to have a good time, I wish I could go with you. Leok Reply to this

mystic

this may be of use for your travels along the coast:travel guide

Note that St Trop is not on the rail line, though Cannes, Antibes and St Raphael all are.

When I was last down there four years ago the Carte Isabelle cost €12 Reply to this

My pleasure Mystic: Nicoletta 😊 I'm afraid that I really can't remember the relative prices of things. The main supermarket that you will find in the each of the towns is Monoprix. To find the locations of these under the search, click on 06-Alpes Maritimes and it will bring up the addresses. There are a few listed in Nice and one in Cannes.

A general note, which you may already know, the beaches from Nice eastwards through to Ventimiglia are all pebbly (except the one at Monaco which is fake), those from Antibes westwards are sandy, with Antibes itself, Cannes and St Raphael all being good. I imagine that in July that they are all pretty crowded with the temperature in the high 20s - low 30s with strong sun.

If you buy a Carte Isabelle for rail travel it is possible to visit two (or more) towns in one day-trip from Nice, Antibes and Cannes for example or Ventimiglia and Monaco. Trains operate frequently along the coast. Reply to this
