Economy class train. Is it clean? Is it safe?
16 years ago, March 3rd 2008 No: 1 Msg: #29059
Hi,

I want to take the train from Amsterdam airport to Paris in May (on my way back from Istanbul). I see that there is four classes and the price difference between economy class and the other classes is enormous. How are the economy class seat? Is it ok for a short trip? Is it safe? I have read that many solo travellers have their suitcases stolen when they go at the washroom. Any advices to have not this happen? Can I buy the train ticket at the airport or is it better if I buy it in advance online?

Thanks,

Richard

Hello Richard 😊

I have taken economy class seats in trains to a lot of countries in Europe. How clean and safe they are depends on which country u are travelling in. All of them were at least fairly clean. In some countries robberies can be a risk at night so if u are travelling economy class at night then wear a money belt inside your clothes and keep cameras and other valuables inside your sleeping bag.

I generally buy my tickets in advance online because then there are opportunities to avail of special offers. I buy the tickets 3 months in advance usually. If u buy the tickets online the train conductor may ask to see the credit card u bought it with and some ID so be sure to have those with u.

Travell with train , on economy class ( 2'nd class ) are indicated only on the day trip. If go on night, used sleeping wagons and couchette wagons. Price to one place to Couchete wagon are aprox 15-17 Euro. I travell on night only with Couchette Wagon and day time with 1'st Class. Also all my European travell with trian are on the 1'st and Bussiness class with ICE -Germany, TGV -France and Night express trains. Tickets buy from Rail station and are verry neccesary to make reservation place to all Express and Intercity trains.

Hello Nemesiss 😊

U can travel economy class at night. I do it but it involves sleeping in a seat rather than a bed.

Hi Mell 😊
I sleeping much better on the bed than seat. But the seat is on 1'st class or bussines class, is OK
With all trains ( in my country and Europe ) i travel only 1'st and bussines class. I not prefer economy class because are not shure for my safety. Wherre i travel i go with my new camera ( CANON 5D and some accesory - lens, filters, remote controll, etc.) and i prefer SAFETY TRAVELL. Also are cost me only 3,50 EURO/ places on 1'st class. Ticket are free , because its one convention between all European country with employers on Railway Ministery.
