husband and i are thinking about going to italy next year and, since it is our first time, have been thinking of doing an escorted tour. we are both around 50ish (him more, me less), and can be pretty active. too may companies, too many tours.....any suggestions - good, bad or ugly? would like to spend between 10-14 days and visit rome, florence, venice at least.
thanks
Reply to this I have never been to Europe. BUT, I was a tour guide for many years in Southamerica. I was a the local guide with lots of Tour Companies, I have seen many, many tour conductors or tour directors. The companies providing the best service in my opinion are Travcoa (based in CA) and Globus. I am sure there many more, but those are the ones I know. They are also, very expensive.
Reply to this Hi! We´re just back from tour to Spain and write down the www.playandtour.com website to download the information about the cities in mp3. We toured Barcelona and that's great. And think they've got other cities arouend Europe, check it. It's a good choice. Much better than tours with other people going to very typical'n'xpenve restaurants.
Reply to this I am leading a tour to Italy next summer. We depart around July 16th. We will be visiting Rome, Venice, and Italy. If you've never been and you'd like to have a group to travel with, we'd love to have you join us. Contact me for more information if you think it would be something you might be interested in.
Reply to this I used trafalgar last year for a tour of Europe and found it very good. There were lots of people in your age group on it. Trafalgar took care of about everything which made it very convenient. They also have a variety of options.

Reply to this Hi,
I found this site which lists heaps of different smaller tour companies - the ones you don't often hear about. I've done the Trafalgar/Globus-type tour, but found they were pretty hectic and sometimes a bit of a whirlwind tour and you almost need a holiday when they're finished! These smaller, more personalised tours seem to specialise on just one region (in most cases), but would give you a really good feel for a particular part of Europe. I'll definitely be considering one of these type of tours next time.
