Need info on Amsterdam in Sept.

I'll be going to Amsterdam in Sept and I'm looking for interesting things to do and see other than the usual tourist stuff.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Also interesting places to eat.

Bicycling is of interest as well.

I'm 60 so the real partying places are not really of interest.

Thanks,

I'd be sure to make a day trip to Rotterdam-- it was the highlight of my Amsterdam trip last year. The most striking thing about the city, coming from Amsterdam, is how friendly everyone is to tourists. You can't ask for directions without getting into a 10-minute conversation.

At the center of town is an interesting square and a building designed by the great architect Rem Koolhaas. There's a great contemporary art museum (I can't recall the name of it) that's a short walk away. Compared to Amsterdam, the food is tastier and cheaper.

Another interesting day-trip from Amsterdam to see Rietveld's Schröder-Schräder House in Utrecht.
