My husband and I are going to Europe this winter. We are planning on going to London, Scotland, Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich, Germany, Switzerland, Venice, Florence, Rome, Pisa and Genoa Italy, Nice, Paris France and back to London. What kind of train ticket is best to get? We\'re also thinking of renting a car in Nice, France and driving to Paris instead of the train. All of these options are so hard to figure out. Is a select pass best? Or the EuroRail? We\'re both under 26 so we can get student discounts...I just need help figuring all this out! Thanks!
Reply to this Last year, I was on a trafalgar trip in Europe and a couple aussie girls were on it. They had trained all over Europe and found it very easy. I'm heading back to Italy in a few weeks and have reserved train tickets between the cities of Rome-Florence and Florence-Venice. I'd say if you're willing to drive, that certainly gives you the most flexibility but if you want some downtime while you travel between cities, the train should get it done.
Reply to this I would generally prefer car hire but I have traveled all around Europe by train and it is a good way of seeing the major cities and towns. It is not a good way
however. Bicycle or car are best for exploring the more rural areas. The only time a car is no good is in the big cities themselves when public transport is better Reply to this When travelling long distances, I would recommend the Interrail-pass. There is a new version, which gives you 22 days of travelling all over Europe...Price is about 350 ...Should save a lot of money...Maybe car-hiring isn't the worst alternative, but actually I would never ever take a car to drive to Paris...
