My wife is going with some friends to Paris, and can only speak Spanish. Will she get by only speaking Spanish? Are there many people that can speak Spanish in France, Paris.

Thanks for your help,

Sol

Hello,

You seem to speak English too :o)
You will find people speaking one of those languages in Paris but sometimes it will take a couple of tries before finding!

Well, I can speak English fine. But my wife and I only speak Spanish together as she can only speak Spanish, and I will not be with her on the trip to France - she will be with only Spanish speaking friends too.

She'll find people speaking Spanish!
It might be tough sometimes but many French are speaking more or less Spanish -and some speak a very good Spanish. Spain is a common holidays destinations for French.

HI!

I went to Paris this summer, and my friend and I (we are both American) found MANY Spanish speakers in the Montmartre district of Paris (for some reason). She can speak Spanish well after having studied it and living in Spain for one year, and she talked to an older Spanish couple outside the Moulin Rouge. We also found lots of Spanish speakers around the Basilica de Sacre Coeur (Sacred Heart). My friend was wanting to know more information about the Basilica, so she asked a Spanish woman there.

To be honest from my experience Paris is quite mixed with nationality's and tourists, so i think she should be ok, but in mainland France you will need some French or at the very least a smattering of english.

We were mistaken for Spaniards and were spoken to in Spanish various times although we are from the USA although Mexican descent....it was nice knowing that we could communicate in Spanish when I could not speak French although my spouse speaks great French!! Hey - thank you all for your feedback! We are a lot more relaxed now about the whole idea. Hopefully all goes well in France! Now I just have to worry about my wife being picked up by some sexy Frenchman! hehehe!
