Have a stop over in Sydney airport as we travel from New Zealand to the Us and then the UK.
We are in the airport for over 7 hours ! Can we survive this! My husband wants to leave the airport and go into Sydney for a while, but is this viable.Do we have to have forms to do this?
Any help please!

We Canadians needed to pay for a visa to see Australia but you folks from NZ may not. Otherwise I think you should be fine. Reply to this

Hi Deeley, I think that would mean filling in all the arrival and then departure forms, as it wouldn't be treated the same way as an international transfer. There'd probably be additional departure tax to pay as well, and the last time I went through Sydney it wasn't exactly cheap!
What time of day will you be there? Peak hour? You'd need to also factor in the 2 or 3 hours pre-departure checkin time as well in considering if it's worth the trip into town. Check with your airline if the luggage can still be checked through to final destination even if you are leaving the airport yourself - otherwise you'll be taking it into town with you or looking for baggage storage at the airport ;-)

Baggage storage at Sydney International is good - it has the coin operated ones and the bulk baggage section. A trip into town from Syd Int'l is easy. Jump on the train very near those baggage storage places and you are in Central Business District in about 30 mins. That train will even go on that train to go right up to the harbour, see the Opera House, have coffee and cake, maybe a good lunch, then head off using the same train as well back to the airport when it's time.
