Let me give you a brief description. I want to do Croatia and Slovenia. I´ll be landing at Milan along with 3 friends of mine. The tricky part is that I only have 11 days of vacation. I have 2 options. Either rent a car at Milan and head straight to Ljbljana, staying there for 2 days, then head to Split and visit the nearby islands, head south to Dubrovnik and come back to Milan. It will take some hours of traveling, I know. Or to take a train from Milan to Ancona and take the ferry to Split, visit the nearby islands, then take the ferry down to Dubrovnik. The problem is heading North to Ljubljana. I don´t think I have enough days and I belive there´s no train station in Dubrovnik. Perhaps I could take the ferry back up to Split and take the train there to Slovenia.
What should I do?
By the way, could someone please inform me of the distance between Milan and Dubrovnik. I can´t find it anywhere.
Thnx,
Johny Walker
Reply to this I really think your best bet would be to go to Ancona get the ferry to Dubrovnik, do the islands on the way to Split, then get a train/or bus depending on your time to Lbuljana. I dont know much about Slovenia but from what you've just said, this would be your best itinerary travel wise i reckon
Reply to this that is- if u can get a ferry from Ancona to Dubrovnik, your other option could be to go further down the Italian coast and get a ferry to Dubrovnik from there..
Reply to this Hi Steve,
I don´t think there are any ferries linking Ancona to Dubrovnik. I know that there are ferries from Bari to Dubrovnik though. But I want to leave Italy the fastest way I can, due to the short vacation I have. I think I´ll go with the idea of heading straight to Split and the islands. If I have time, I´ll probably take the bus from Split to Dubrovnik just to see what the hype is about. It´s a 5 hour trip. I know that in Split I can take the train to Ljbljana. Bottom line, unfortunately I think it all comes down to choosing between Ljubljana and Dubrovnik... Let´s hope not cos it´s a tough call!!
Thnx for your help, though!

Reply to this Hi,
from milan to ljubljana you have 4 hrs drive. slovenia is small and you can have 2 days in slovenia, but on my opinion 1 day is ok. then if you dont need to see istria take a hieway to split. try not to go on weekends. you have 5 hr to split. leave a car in split and take a ferry to hvar, from hvar tke a ferry to korcula and then on korcula rent other car and go to the dubrovnik.
I like in Zagreb, and i am from Dubrovnik and this is the best way. my e-mail is
if you need help with accommodation Reply to this My opinion:
Ferry from Ancona to Split, visit one of the island (Brac, Hvar, Korcula, Solta,... i recommend islan of Brac),
then visit Zadar and islands around (Kornati, Ugljan,...).
One day you can visit Plitvice Lakes, it is for sure not to miss place, like heaven on earth ( more info: http://www.plitvice-croatia.co.cc/ ).
Next you can go is Zagreb, and then Ljubljana. From there you can go to Bled lake.
Reply to this go to ancona and take a ferry to split.from there you can go visit many islands and dubrovnik if you wish.and why don't you rent a car there, and the drive north to slovenia...
