Need Ireland traveling advice
16 years ago, June 6th 2007 No: 1 Msg: #14936
Hi,
I'm new here and wanted to know if anyone has gone to Ireland and what did you eat there. I'm a veggie/non-dairy and the food in Ireland looks like it may give me a hard time.
Thanks for any responses.
Cheers,

Hey, I spent six weeks in the Emerald Isle last year and travelled through all the counties.
As to the food, you may have more difficulty in rural areas where the food is traditional but that doesn't necessarily mean meat meat meat. Lots of potatoes and some fairly overcooked veges were pretty standard. Irish stew was not as prevelant as you might think and there were always vegetarian options even if they weren't always very imaginative.
But! They make wonderful soda bread in the villages (yum) and fantastic vegetable soups and you can always buy homemade bread and fruit even if the veges are limited to good old potatoes half the time.
In the cities you will have no trouble at all. If you go to Dublin, the best turkish vegetarian kebabs I've EVER eaten can be found at the far end of the Temple Bar... sorry I can't remember the name of the restaurant but ask around, someone will tell you. Reply to this
