suggestions for australia travel!

Hi, I am planning to travel in australia for about a month. I have a basic itinerary in mind, but could really use some help on deciding the best places to go, especially in the northern territory!!

Hi, i am a student and have been studying in brisbane for the past 4 months. I am planning on traveling throughout australia in late june/july! so far i've been to cairns and a lot of beaches around queensland (+ byron bay). My plan is to:

fly to darwin
see kakadu?
take the ghan train to alice springs/uluru
continue on the train to adelaide
melbourne
sydney

so the question is: is it more worthwhile to see kakadu, or kangaroo island near adelaide, or neither since i am rapidly running out of money? I\'m trying to do this on a budget and it seems sooo expensive to go to kakadu, but will i really be missing out and regret it if i go to darwin and dont make it to kakadu? my favorite places are cities (im from new york) and the beach, i also like to see things that are not so touristy.

any suggestions are much appreciated :-) Reply to this

Go to Kakudu, it's a must! If you are trying to save money then miss out on Kangaroo Island as it is expensive to get their just for the day trip. Kakadu is amazing. Reply to this

To Jayden James re N. T.- you've obviously been to Oz before- in the territory try to see the gorges east and west of Alice, Desert Park in Alice. Can youmake it to the far NW, Kununurra, Ord river, Kimberley etc, they are AWESOME but it's a helluva long way! LAdy C Reply to this

Hello, I had the chance to live and study in Brisbane as well at UQ (St Lucia campus). I did travelling around Australia (Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, and of course Qld). Train is ok for travelling for students to get 50%!d(MISSING)iscount fares. Unfortunately, I did not have the chance to visit Darwin and Adelaide from Darwin you can catch the train going to Adelaide. It is a long way from adelaide to melbourne and sydney, so I suggest you can fly directly to Sydney which alot of tourist attractions could be visited even beaches (Bondi beach) and from Sydney you can travel by train and have a day-tour in Canberra and back to Sydney on the same day.

Frankly, I dont like Melbourne not much to see in the city except if you want to travel in the countryside. Have to tried travelling around Qld like Sunshine coast, Gold Coast, Toowoomba and Barrier Reef? For me, Qld has the best places to visit in Australia.
