Duration: 21 days (includes air travel)
When: Mid June- Early July
Countries visiting: Germany, Amsterdam, Belgium, Spain, Italy ( travel europe counter-clockwise)
Budget: $3000-3500 ( includes airfair)
Travelers: Me and My Friend
Style: Backpacking ( no luggage)
Purpose: mild but fast exploring, some drinking, some relaxing
Europe Experiences: 3 days in Rome, 2 days in Venice, 5 days in London. ( During winter with lots of vacancies at hotels, and I was not backpacking)

Here is a list of my questions and I would be very greatful if everyone gives as many advices as possible, I am open to anything.

*)How early should I book my stay in hostels? ( I am going with one other person and we might change decisions about how long we are staying places)

1) If I want to book a nice hostel is early booking necessary, how early?

2) How much more expensive do hostels get if I book at the last minute?

3) What website should I use for Booking hostels? ( for best prices & nice places)

4) What should i pack up in my backpack?

5) What are some security measures I can take?

6) Where and What should I stay away from?

7) Should I take a cell phone?

8) What is generaly the chances of getting a private room for 2 in a hostel if booking a week early?

9) What kind cloth should i take with me, and what kind of shoes should i wear? ( I dont want to do any hiking, mainly walking)

10) Some suggestions on how to save money and ignore getting ripped off?

Hiya, just a few suggested answers to your Qs. Tehy're all pretty general but you never know, might help!

5. Just be generally aware of your surroundings and who's about at all times. Look out for pickpockets, especially in crowded places like city centres, train stations etc. Try not to be on your own too much, espacially at night and try to stick to main roads if you are alone at night. Keep everything valuable in a section of your backpack that is not easy for a pickpocket to get to, ideally in an inside pocket or hidden in your washbag in your backpack. Take photocopies of all travel documents and keep them in seperate places, leave one copy of documents (including photocopy of passport) with a relative or trusted friend back home, keep one copy in your backpack and one copy in your day pack/on you. This way when you check into hostels and they ask for your passport you can just hand them a photocopy rather than your actual passport. Keep a list of emergency contact numbers on you, eg. relative/friend back home, credit card lost/stolen helplines.

9. I'm not very good at packing light but am learning. In Europe at that time the weather should be really good so bring plenty of shorts and T-shirts. For walking around during the day invest in a really good quality pair of sandal style shoes that will be comfy to walk in but will let your feet breathe too. Also, take a pair of flip flops, the best quality ones I've found are Havianas - really comfortable and wont wear out quickly like cheaper pairs often do. Take a couple of nicer outfits for when you go out in the evenings, but pretty much everywhere in Europe is very casual, even in the evenings. It may sound geeky but perhaps pack a plastic mac, it doesnt take up much room in your pack and it might come in very handy one day. Also take one pair of trousers/jeans and a jumper in case you encounter any freakishly cold weather or even just a really cold train/plane.

10. For some suggestions on how to save money see the other post in this section 'super stingy in europe' For how to avoid getting ripped off, just use some good old fashioned common sense. If someone is trying to sell you something that you didnt ask for, the chances are you dont want it. If you feel under pressure to buy something just walk away and always try to haggle like crazy - whatever price they start off at, a good rule of thumb is just to quarter it and go from there, but only ever pay what you're happy with.

Have lots of fun, take every opportunity and enjoy yourself! 😊 Reply to this
