We will be beginning our trip in Bremen Germany at the beginning of September. We will travel south to Rothernburg and then over to Amsterdam. Any suggests for activities or lodging along the way would be greatly apprecaited
Reply to this We stayed at the German equivalent of B&B's...the fremdenzimmers. We met many wonderful German hosts this way. You can usually make these arrangements through the tourist office, unless technology and Airbnb has replaced this service. We also avoided large cities in favor of small towns.
I recommend that you stop or stay overnight in: Goslar, Rothenberg ob der Tauber (via the Romantic Route) to Fussen (stop to tour the Weiskirche and Neuschwanstein Castle), then through Vaduz Lichtenstein to Lauterbrunnen (or the little inn at the end of the valley in Steckelburg) Switzerland, then on to Sankt Goarshausen via the Rhein River starting in Bingen, and then via Brussels Belgium to Amsterdam. The total distance is 1400 miles or 25 hours of driving that works out to about 200 miles/day or 3 hrs 30 minutes/day on average, leaving a lot of time to stop and see things along the way. If you are going to southern Germany you should continue to the Alps!
Reply to this Octoberfest occurs in September in Munich. A wild time but worth attending once.
