I have paid in advance for much of a trip to Europe in April, but there are 5 of us going and we will have to buy some meals and sightseeing there and then. With the dollar diving, should I buy Euros now? If so where - at an airport, at a bank? thanks for advice.
Reply to this From what I have been reading on the web I would say that the dollar will continue to dive, but not for too much longer, however even when it does start to come back again I can't see it coming back that strongly ad the US problems are deep and will take a long while to correct.
I'd buy half of your moneys worth now and then as you get closer to going keep an eye on the dollar and if it is still diving then buy the rest!
Reply to this Yep - I'd suggest the same. Though if I knew what the currency markets were really going to do - well I'd quit my day job anyway.
Reply to this well I'd quit my day job anyway.
I thought you quit over 2 years ago??? hahah
You know, I really need to buy my Euros now. Not that it's going to matter much... unless it crashes, it's only going to be the difference of about 10 Euros for how much I'm going to buy. :-\
Reply to this I've been checking www.xe.com for the past two weeks and the dollar is actually stronger than it was while I was in Europe for the past four months (go figure) It was around $1.35 while I was there, for the past few weeks it's fallen from 1.29 to 1.22 (today). So who knows, maybe there will be a slight upsurge that you can take advantage of?
Reply to this I think the dollar is going to get better against the euro in time. It's overinflated as I see it. I think the whole EU is looking rather shaky at the moment. Time will tell though. I remember hearing while in Italy that debate was already taking place about trying to bring the Lira back.
Reply to this Heh heh I can see that going over well with the Milanese 😊
Reply to this Well, I'm not really sure how I feel about the whole EU and the Euro... I don't think it's doing much good for some countries as it is others. Maybe Ali or someone can pipe in on his thoughts. Of course, this kinda broaches off the whole topic of buying 'em. 😉
Reply to this Not totally sure either. The problem people seem to have with Euros more or less boils down to opportunistic increases in prices by retailers, landlords etc - but without an increase in wages...
