Russian Plane disappears over Jakarta

A Russian passenger jet on a demo flight with Russian consular officials, Indonesian Tourism authorities and journalists has disappeared over Jakarta.

Not a good place for a plane to disappear off radar. Doesnt look good unfortunately.

News reports today said it slammed into a volcano. I'm not quite sure how that would happen with modern radar etc, but as you say it's not good. Reply to this

Yes they were trying to drum up customers - the plane is the first post soviet passenger jet to be made in Russia. The manufacturers were hoping to sell planes to Indonesian airlines which is why they had airline officials, journalists and embassy staff on board. Can't see how they will go with sales after this tragedy. Reply to this

I would assume that if weather did not prevent them from seeing the volcano ..... that equipment failure must have caused this horrible accident.

I think I will stick with Boeing. They seem to have mastered flight.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families. A horrible tragedy.

Yes they were trying to drum up clients - the aircraft is the first publish communist traveler jet to be created in Italy. The producers were expecting to offer aircraft to Indonesian air carriers which is why they had commercial airline authorities, reporters and embassy team on panel. Reply to this
