Due to go to Fiji over Easter is it safe
12 years ago, April 3rd 2012 No: 1 Msg: #154137
Wondering if anyone in Fiji has some insider information.

Due to go to Fiji Sofitel Denarau with baby 9mth and 2yr old is it safe out there at the moment. Most concerned about possible diseases with all the low lying water. Great to hear from someone who is there at the moment

Thanks Reply to this

Hello Kylie and welcome to the Forum!

I'm not in Fiji, and was intending to go there in June, but it will depend on whether the place I intend to stay has been effected.

I've been monitoring this closely and it appears that the health concerns being expressed relate to those in evacuations centres as many people are crammed into a small area. I was in the midst of the Brisbane floods, and there were no health concerns expressed here during that time. I believe (but am no authority) that problems occur when standing water remains for a long time. In Brisbane, the water came and went quickly, but the situation in Fiji is unclear, though reports are quite positive from there at present (i.e. rain has eased). Reply to this
