That is in the heart of winter, so it will be fairly cold with quite a bit of wind or rain. Make sure you take warm clothing and wet weather gear. The weather in the South Island is more inclement than the North Island, but the difference is marginal. Top daily temperatures wouldn't be higher than 20 degrees celsius - but it is more likely to be in the mid-teens. Reply to this

This is when i'll be in NZ as well, i was going for 5 weeks but after seeing what the weather will be like i think i'm cutting it down to 2 1/2 to give myself more time in Asia. I'm only planning on staying on North Island anyway, and in the Northern part (North of Auckland, possibly straying down to Rotorura for a few days). Apparently the South Island can be good for Skiing at that time of year if that's your thing. It will still be beautiful, and hopefully being out of season there will be more spaces in hostels etc! All the adventure sports (bungee jumping, white water rafting, sky jump, zorbing etc) seem to be open all year round. Reply to this
