I from Thailand.
If u visit thailand. i have some of the most famous dive locations in Thailand as

· The Similan Islands in south western Thailand — 70 km due west of Phang Nga. Widely regarded as Thailand's best diving. Best accessed via liveaboard or a lengthy boat ride from Khao Lak
· The Krabi region of south western Thailand — (Ko Lanta, Phi Phi, etc) — less than 10 dive sites but most are certainly worth a visit with several sites rivaling the Similan Islands. All diving is located well off the coast, requiring a boat.
· Ko Tao in south eastern Thailand — great for beginners and almost certainly Asia's most popular place to get certified

Just had 4 weeks in the Phillipines, travelling through the Visayas region. Keen divers, we picked out what we hoped would be the best the area had to offer and weren't disappointed.
Our first stop was Malapscua to dive with the Thresher sharks and we were lucky enough to see one on our first and only dive from the island as a super typhoon cut short our time there so don't know much about the other dive sites there. To see the thresher shark meant an early start, a descent to the top of the sea mount at Monad shoal and then a long wait for the shark to appear at a cleaning station.
Our next destination was Alona Beach, a lovely spot and probably our favourite beach. We dived Balicasag Island and were very impressed with the amount of fish to be seen.
The dive sites off Alona Beach were not so impressive but still interesting.
We then travelled to South Leyte to achieve our long-held ambition to dive with whale sharks.
This area is very isolated but we had a wonderful experience during our day trip across to Sogod Bay where we spent a very tiring day sitting in our diving gear and jumping in and out of the water as our spotter ( a local in a rowing boat and mask ) indicated with his oar each time he saw a whale shark. What a wonderful experience to see these huge animals serenely gliding below us.
We moved on from there to Moalboal, and found the diving round Pescador island as good as any of the other places we had been to. On one dive our guide showed us a red frogfish, a black frogfish and a green frogfish, all unseen by us until he pointed them out.
Our final dive spot was Apo Island, which had been recommended to us by a fellow diver we met on our travels and we were so glad we made the effort to get there as the diving was wonderful. Really fast drift dives, one dive had more fish than we had ever seen before on one dive, sea snakes, more frog fish, huge shoal of jacks, turtles and so much more.
Phillipines diving is certainly worth the long flight and effort involved in travelling between islands, with cheap food and drink and really friendly locals.

Hi there! Yes I have last June and loved it! I have been a diver for over 12 years, and seriously its the best diving I have ever done. We stayed at Pamalican Islands (Amanpulo) a tad expensive, but well worth it. The beaches were unspoilt and the reefs, well you can imagine - they hadn't been touched in years, Have a look at my website www.luxurybackpackers.com for more info Reply to this

I'm planning a trip to the Philippines from June until early August. I'm slightly nervous that going during the wet season will heavily affect how much I enjoy my trip? Is the weather so crazy that I'll be unable to enjoy the beaches and water? I want to go ASAP, but can't leave till June. Any advice for me? Should I postpone the trip for another year until I can travel at a better time? Or is the weather decent enough for me to still have an amazing trip? Reply to this

Hello. I went in June and I must say that we were very lucky! We only had 5 days and every day was perfect conditions for diving and sun-bathing. There won't be clear blue skies that time of year, there will be some cloud. And it usually has a bit of rain in the late afternoon. I must admit we were pretty worried we wouldn't get any sunshine at all, but when we were in Tokyo debating whether to go or not, we just checked the BBC weather website every day. We found it to be pretty reliable to be honest! There are no guanrantees whenever or wherever you travel nowadays - especially due to all that climate change (we were in Dubai last week and it rained for 2 days!) Good luck! www.luxurybackpackers.com Reply to this

Hi, do visit www.hoparound.net as it is a web portal that presents many many of the diving spot options covering the whole Philippines. The site also gives a list of micro tourism service providers in those specific locations.

Have a nice time! Reply to this

We do have the best diving in the world. If you search through the marine biology literature you will find that have the most diverse selection of marine life found anywhere in the world. It is important to note that we have had our share of "human damage" but we have gotten pretty smart about how to fix it and our coral reefs are on the comeback. Many of us (resort owners) work very hard to get our piece of the ocean in the best condition possible to support sustainable tourism while maintaining a balance with the fishermen that must fish to eat. Come to the Philippines and dive with the best! See you at depth!

I did my DM in the Philippines severl years ago. It is a great place to further your diving education. If you can narrow down where you would like to go on vacation in the Philippines I can steer you toward an instructor. Reply to this

I was thinking of doing my DM in Thailand or Phillippines which country is cheaper for it? Reply to this

The PI is typically cheaper. It depends on the intensity level you are looking for in an instructor. Reply to this

For those of you interested in a "SCUBA DIVING VACATION" in the Philippines need to try searching on names like - Panay Explorers, Sabang, Puerto Galera, Asia Divers, etc. Reply to this
