Important visa information that I wished I would've known if you're travelling to both China and Hong Kong
Every travel agency I talked to and the Chinese consulate all assured me that I would be fine with the visa I had to go to both China and Hong Kong. I had just a regular one entry visa to go to China. The important thing to know, that I didn't, is that if you enter through China, then from China go to Hong Kong, then try to go back to China, it doesn't work with a one entry visa. A lot of people may have already known this, but I figured I would post it to help people avoid problems. I have a blog about my time there and the problems I ran into getting back into China. Apparently Hong Kong is still considered separate so you must have a multiple entry visa, because going to HK is technically leaving China.
I had already bought my tickets and when I went to the airport to leave HK, I wasn't allowed to leave. I missed three connecting flights and couldn't get any refunds, had to rush order a visa at a booth in the airport, and had to spend an extra night (HK isn't cheap :P). Luckily I got my visa the next day, but I had to buy new tickets into China. I had to spend a night in the airport hotel (4 or 5 stars) because almost all other hotels in Hong Kong were full.
Hopefully this helps anyone planning to go to China/HK!
