Reply to this No, we have not made wine at home but we have made beer at home. Yes, we have traveled to taste wine's in their home countries and try new vineyards.
Napa Valley, California
Columbia Valley, Washington
We have gone to wine tastings in New Zealand, Greece, France and Italy. In our opinion, the wines are much better when you are tasting them in their home country. They seem smoother.

Reply to this "Have you ever tried making wine at home" - Yes I certainly have and still do. I make wine from grapes I buy and harvest by hand from a vineyard in the Hunter Valler of New South Wales (wine district 2 hours north of Sydney). I also make wine from a small group of vines that I grow in my back garden. I have also experimented with making wine at home from various fruits (apple, black currants, plums, etc.) I have written some blogs about wine making.
"Ever travelled to distant places to taste variety of Wine?" - Yes, I love wine and love trying different varieties in every country I visit. I have tasted great wines in places you would expect, like here in Australia, France, Italy and Germany. Also in some countries not so well known on the world wine stage like Slovenia, Croatia and even Vietnam.
In Maribor, Slovenia we travelled to see what is reportedly the worlds oldest living grape vine, it is worth the effort to see this. I also like to investigate the various methods of trellising in vineyards, which vary depending on the country.
Plus, I have also travelled for the purpose of helping with wine harvests and made wine in some other countries while travelling.
One of my favourite wine districts outside Australia is in Alsace, France. I love this region for many reasons, including the very traditonal approach they have to wine making which I have learnt an lot from. It is also wonderful because of the Alsace Wine Route which winds its way through the district. Once I discovered the wine route in Alsace, I discovered many other countries and districts have similar things (like Slovenia). Wine tourism is well worth investigating.
One of the wine making sayings I like most is ...
There are 3 steps to a civilised society as exemplified by the Romans:
1. Conquer the known world,
2. Invent wine making,
3. Invite friends over to celebrate.
Cheers!
